the second part is a quote from a movie deliverance and i were in. but i dont get the connection to the first part. random?

I first heard Opeth about 2 years ago. A friend of mine recommended it so I searched the net and found out they have alot of fans.

Like many others, I was deep into bands like Disturbed, Korn, Mudvayne, Slipknot and all those stupid metal bands at that time.

I first heard the song "Drapery Falls" and I thought it was good. Then I got their morningrise album and that was the first time I heard the best album ever created.
Since then, I have listened to hundreds of metal albums but still, non of them come close to being as good as Opeth.

Not too long ago for me, Spring/Summer 2004, friend of mine online was into Opeth at the time and sent me 'Bleak' and 'When'...

First listen, I didn't know what to think really. I was sort of overwelhmed. But it was awesome and like Jinn, i didn't know what the hell Mikael was saying lol but i fucking liked it. And now, I can tell what he's saying sort of easily.. even when i haven't got all the lyrics memorized, but it's getting there. The music is what really got me, song structures, and creativity and the band not being mainstream. the growls grew on me, but i really really really think Mike has an incredible voice, both clean and death growls. He is probably my fave. singer..
Opeth are really the only death metal band I listen to so far. I like everyone song they've ever written.

My first time? Well, it was actually quite special. Me and mike were out with the rest of the band, kickin' a few back in the bars, but we decided to head back to our place. It was our anniversary, 3 months, but we had yet to break it in. Well anyway, Mike had the whole room set up and ready, I was so shocked when I got back. Roses everywhere, that sort of thing. Well anyway, he just looked into my eyes, and I into his. We both knew it was time. Harvest began, and it was a love affair ever since.

Oh man, that was gay.

I lost my Opeth virginity to Windowpane in August of 2003. Then I just downloaded everything I could and now a year and a half later I own all of their albums + Lamentations. I love their whole catalogue and listen to quite a few other metal bands as well. I guess they were my gateway metal band.

I bought Morningrise sometime in '96 at the local metal shop in Stavanger. Obviously I went home and listened to it, and I have bought the rest of the albums later. For me, Opeth is the best metal band around. They have this passion for their music that keeps them special!

Basically I was part of this Ballet Group and we were all dancing and our teacher put on Deliverance (the track) and we all started dancing like twats it was just soo fun to dance to. We decided to make a show of us dancing to various other heavy metal tracks. But that Opeth track has always been my favourite to dance to. I've been hooked to the music ever since I got over the death vocals, know I love them.

;)

I was in a music store and they were playing some music. I said to a friend of mine that I thought it sounded pretty good. But we didn't know what band it was. Then i suggested that it might be Opeth. I knew the band because I would always see their albums in the music stores but I had never listened to them.
So I went home and decided to download a track or two. I didn't know what to download so I downloaded the song "In The Mist She Was Standing" Then I was hooked.

fuckin classic. :tickled:

First time, maybe about a year ago. I heard In My Time of Need on Gotham Radio. They played it quite a bit, but I thought it was cool, but light and didn't think much of it.

Flash forward to a couple months ago. Met a chick that wasn't into metal, but loved Opeth. Kept that in mind as I kept on meeting people that were into Opeth. Kind of like a well kept secret. Got a gift certificate to Best Buy on Christmas. Went through all the shelves (which were a fucking mess) and found Deliverance by chance. I decided that the cert. will come in handy because if I don't like it, no big deal. I liked the artwork and I remembered seeing the Opeth forum here, so I took the chance and made that one of my choices for the certificate.

Like it a lot, surprised by the death vox, but loved the clean sections and the transitions into them.

Forward another month to now and I have all of the albums and the DVD.

i got brutally raped my first time with opeth. i had always seen the BWP cd at best buy, and had always heard about them. so i said wtf, i'll buy it. (i had never heard anything from them before). i put the CD in my car, and i'm like ??! no music?? so i turn it up louder...and i start hearing something kinda far off..and it starts to get closer...and then.. :worship:

Now they are in my top 5 favorite bands, probably #1.

i will always remember the day i got raped by the leper affinity.

Well, I had stopped listening to a lot of current death, black etc. bands for one reason or another for a few years, and was kind of out of touch with some of the newer groups (having gone on numerous bizarre musical detours). So my friend tells me to get Opeth. I asked him "Which one?" And he said "Any, they're all fucking great." So I went to my local CD store and picked up Still Life. Put in my car and "WTF? I can't hear anything. Oh, the volume is real low and it's repetitive." As I wanted something to drive to, I skipped to Godhead's Lament. Without turning the volume down. Almost swerved off the road when it blasted out of the speakers. Turned it down, and listened. As with all progressive music, it didn't "hit" me right away. Not really a favorite album, but was still compelled to listen sometimes. They just intrigued me. (Same experience with Tool btw) Decided to buy another cd about a year later. Picked up Damnation b/c that's all they had (yeah I knew it was clean, although at first couldn't remember which was clean and which was heavy between Damnation and Deliverance). I liked it, but for a while it really blended together for me. Then about a year later Century Media had a $5 Opeth cd sale, so I ordered BWP and MYAH. This was great, because those two albums were album to unlock Still Life for me. I now have filled out the collection, including Lamentations. I listened to Still Life twice ina row yesterday. Everyday when I eat lunch I listen to Opeth. And BWP gets played in the car everyday (at least one song). Just amazing.
