10min. epic song (EWQL Symphonic Choir/6505)

Sounds much better now, IMO. The snare sounds better now. I think the mix is just about perfect now. In fact, it's going to be in heavy rotation in my playlist. :)

That was one of the most epic aural experiences I have ever had. Would you mind to elaborate on the tweaking you did with the choirs (eq, velocity, etc) I have the same plugin and I don't feel all that competent at yielding as good of results as I know that plugin can yield.

Thank you very much!

There was no tweaking involved for the choirs as far as EQ goes. I only used a nice full cathedral reverb to get the ambiance and the fullness. I used wizoo reverb but I'm sure you can have similar results with other reverbs too.

By far the most time consuming part was the actual programming of the choirs. I programmed each section separately, bass, tenors, sopranos, altos and boys. Each singing 3 voiced chords in different octaves depending on the section, but not always the exact same chord...use your ears on this, that's what I did cause I don't know shit about music theory. Then I panned them across the stereo image with the basses preferably in the the center.
There is some variation in the velocity obviously, you don't want to have constantly full intensity by the choir. How you tweak it depends on your song and arrangement.

The most tricky part was using the wordbuilder. In this song I just have the choir singing gibberish and not actual words or lyrics which made it a little easier to get a decent result. But still it did need quite a bit of tweaking to get it right. I often noticed some syllable transitions were quite abrupt and unnatural sounding. After all the tweaking I did there are still some parts that don't sound convincing but thankfully they get lost in the full mix. There's an eight part video tutorial for word builder in youtube (search for "symphonic choirs tutorial") which I've found really useful.

One other question I had with the choirs is whether or not you have to record it with an external keyboard to be able to get the word builder to work. I have a midi file that I imported and I am able to set the output in nuendo to the Symphonic choirs so that it uses those samples. However whenever I try to activate the wordbuilder, it disables the sound for that track. I am sure that this is probably some obvious issue of which my incompetent ass is completely oblivious to but do you have any idea what may be the issue?

I don't think an external keyboard is mandatory but it would be much more difficult to program anything without it. As for your problem I'm not sure what is causing it but I'm pretty sure it's not the external keyboard.

Not at home right now, but just took a quick listen on a friend's pc speakers and it sounds great... song was really cool. going to download it when I go home later.

Awesome song!
As a keyboardist and guitarist, i have to say that this song is really interesting to listen to, and i love how you built up the orchestra! :)

And that snare is just fine, dont listen to those guys! ;)
(But it could use some verb!)

Thank you guys!

Well, I'm glad there's at least one person that doesn't mind the snare :)

Also, I guess I should thank SirLucasTheGreat for resurrecting the thread and getting more people to listen to the song :headbang:.
