I'm still getting blown away by albums I didn't even get to last year.

Mithras - Worlds Beyond the Veil
Everyone makes fun of that Terrorizer review (for good reason), but still, they were right to say this album rules. Note that JayKeeley's review is 1,000,000,000x more honest, yet it still received a nearly perfect score. What did Black Winter Day say? "This album makes me feel stoned" I believe, and it sure does.

*cough* read my review *hack* it rules *regurgitate* the album rules, not my review *transmogrify*

Machine Head - Through the Ashes of Empires
(don't say return to form don't say return to form don't say return to form don't say return to form don't say return to form don't say return to form)
This is Machine Head's return to form. Thank goat.

Yeah, Mithras are going to be huge one day, guaranteed. Especially now that they're on Candlelight.

The more I listen to the new Ackercocke, the more I love its pandemonium.

Of course, I'm listening to Rudra as well. Chief B's sending over their first two albums and together we'll see if we can shine a spotlight on them. It's not like Singapore is on the map....yet.

However, the album I listen to most from my top 10 these days is the latest Falkenbach. It doesn't matter what kind of mood I'm in, it works perfectly each and every time.

St. Anger was Metallica's return to form.
2003 still rules, and Metallica still sucks.

When that MH gets released over here, you make sure to tell me what you think. I'm really enjoying it. :)

You'll have to ask the band and the fans.
Ok, I gotcha, I take it then there was sarcasm intended? Anyway, they once played this amazingly crunchy, thrashy double bass drum laden, solo laden god-like metal in the 80's. That would be the form I'd benchmark any recent Metallica releases against. And I haven't heard them release anyting close to this style since 1991.

The band and fans were both proclaiming St. Anger to be the return of their 80's style. I was merely pointing out that bands love to use the "return to roots" to pull in their older fans.

80's Metallica is OK.

Um, hello? it's sometimes hard to detect sarcasm when all you see is a single written post.
True. Except when of course it's Dreamlord, in which case you can be quite certain it's sarcastic. Of course, he also now says "80s Metallica is ok" so don't give too much credence to the guy. :loco:

A lot of people almost bought it too, with all those "this is soooo metal omgomgoml!!!!11111" reviews coming out of the album listenings. I nearly did, until I heard that piece of trash on the radio.

It sounds like a garage band, in that they recorded everything using various tools found in one's garage.

Oh yeah, totally. At least (even though sales still surpassed 3 million), enough older fans recognized that it's a steaming pile of monkey crap that isn't even remotely comparable to their glory days to cut into their usual album sales.

I prefer to think of it as some of the greatest and most influencial metal music of all time.

Yep

How cool is "Garage Days re-revisited - the $5.98 EP"? I have that on vinyl somewhere. :Smug: Anyway, that's what a real garage band should sound like, doing trashy old songs and breathing life back into them: Breadfan, Helpless, The Wait, and of course, the almighty Crash Course in Brain Surgery. NAD - tell me you can play that bass intro...

Probably, never tried though. :tickled:

Garage Days rules, and I even loved the new covers on Garage Inc. Easily Metallica's best album of the 90s, if it counts anyhow.

Hmmm, I wonder if you have a different version because Breadfan shouldn't be on there. The tracklist should be as follows:

Helpless
The Small Hours
The Wait
Crash Course In Brain Surgery
Last Caress/Green Hell

I agree with your sentiments though. There's definitely a cool vibe of a band playing great songs from their mentors and just having a good time.
