2008 Albums

I haven't bought that much new albums this year but mostly the ones I have bought have been more or less dissapointing, for example Watershed. I think the Swallow the Suns new Ep is great but still not good enough for listening it again and again. Moonsorrow's Tulimyrsky is definately really good, probably the best this year. Can't think anything else right now

So you're saying Cruelty and the beast was bad?
Why are they schmukzz now? :D

Dani has always been the way he has. Always been schmuckzzy..nothing has changed really...except for the constant line-up change that is..but that's just good now and then. At least on this album.

Btw Ominousinane, do you really feel personality is important to like when it comes to music? Or maybe you didn't mean on a personal level? If so, what did you mean?

Don't you love a lot of questions? ;)

I'm referring to schmuks in the music they make, not their personalities. CATB is a pretty good record but DAHE is the best they ever did. They're horrid now imo.

4. Bloodbath - The Fathomless Mastery + Unblessing The Purity (8/10)
5. Cult Of Luna - Eternal Kingdom (8/10)
6. Ikuinen Kaamos - Closure EP (fucking Descent Productions...) (7.5/10)
7. Nine Inch Nails - The Slip (7/10)
8. Opeth - The Roundhouse Tapes DVD (7/10)

What about them?

November has passed...Sadly, we have to inform that Descent Productions can't release our album due to financial difficulties. It's been over a year since we finished the recording and we are fed up with this waiting. It's not fair to us and it certainly isn't fair to our fans. So as a resolution, we decided to release three songs from the album as a free downloadable EP titled "Closure". You can download the songs (320kbps) from the links below.

We would like thank everyone for their patience and support. Hopefully we can now move forward. At the moment we are rehearsing some new songs and we are planning to enter the studio next summer. We will also rerecord the three unreleased songs from the "Epilogue" for the upcoming album. And no, Descent Productions will not release that album.

I had been looking forward to that release.

I can't imagine I did ;)

There was a very positive post, in which 'My Apocalypse' "Wouldnt have been out of place on Kill 'em All" as well as some other song being thumbed up. That's just one song tho, so I'm not here to prove anything, I do believe u didnt like the full experience that is Death Magnetic, who would.

Hmmm...
Warrel Dane, Enslaved, Pendulum, Opeth, Satyricon, Gojira, Steven Wilson, Meshuggah - did not yet check out Nick Cave or Portishead.

Best one to me would be Vertabrae, eventho I'm still sorta diggin into it.

Listen to "My Apocalypse": www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=601136

I was pretty surprised, this song would not have looked out of place on Kill 'em All!
Just said I was surprised, not whether that was positive or negative ;) I was surprised about the intensity and 'metalness' of the song.

I might have said something about "The Day that Never Comes" or "All Nightmare Long", they have some nice parts, but nothing that keeps me coming back to them, far from it.

Wow I just checked out God is an Astronaut and am blown away. I love post rock but somehow I've heard of them but never took the time to listen to them Thanks for reminding me to, its great shit! I really need some new music I've been listening to the same shit for a long time now. Maybe some of you can check out my last fm and tell me some recommendations?

Glad you like God Is An Astronaut. If you like post-rock, you might want to check out the American Dollar. They released their third album, A Memory Stream, this year. Also recommended are their first two albums: The American Dollar and The Technicolour Sleep (my personal favorite). Also, check out Hammock's Raising Your Voice... Trying To Stop An Echo -- it's truly a phenomenal album.

I thought their last album was horrid, but the new one is probably just as good as DAHE and CATB..with the exception of 2 songs which I'm still not sure about yet. The album is also inspired by CATB btw..only that I feel it sounds more like DAHE if anything. So, you should check it out before you hate it too much. Sweetest Maleficia is a good song to start with.

Love the shit out of that Grates record. its puts a smile on your face.
The meshuggah, Protest and Haunted records are all interchangeable i guess. they are all extremely solid releases from great bands.
I only heard this new cynic record recently and was just blown away. the only negative is its so short.
M83s album still holds up well and is just full of 80s energy.
Ghosts was the better NIN release this year. it just covers so much ground with its 36 instrumentals.
great steps forward for Russian circles and opeth.
The white EP is such an amazing folk infused creation. powerful atmosphere.

Steven Wilson - Insurgentes
Bloodbath - The Fathomless Mastery
