2008 Festival dates announced

Oi Vey!!!!

I think Bob's main point here, and he can correct me if I am wrong, is that some of the behaviors displayed can lead to hotels not allowing blocks of rooms, or if word got back to the Pearl Room, them cutting back on having metal shows.

Sorry, I don't care how old you are. Trashing a hotel room, pissing in a stairwell, etc. only further highlights the bullshit metalhead stereotype.

Hey, go balls out! Rock out with your cock out, but no need to destroy property in the process.

Exactly. Why follow the sterotype. Jason, remember McGregor's. Same shit. it was a great club that put on shows in the early 90's but got shut down due to behavior like this that was happening in the parking lot.

With wrecking and trashing hotel rooms is just going to make it harder for a growing fest to get bigger. Once you piss off the hotels in the area....where is everyone who travelled in going to stay? For a fest that is trying to get larger...why cause more problems for it?

Many clubs have been closed due to this behavior.

Also, was this block of rooms reserved under the POWERFEST name? If so, some of you need to consider the negative implications those actions could have on the fest if the cops were to come and break things up.

You really think at the end of the day, CRJ would brush it off with, "Yeah, who cares that we all got busted! PARTY TIME!"

wait... are you guys saying that you think it's OKAY to wreck your hotel room and make a huge mess, in the interest of having fun?

I agree 100% with Diabolik here.
I agree as well. I don't care who the hell you are, or how the hell far your traveled, it's senseless to trash your rooms all up. No good can come of it, and it isn't necessary to having a good time. It's just bullshit. You can't blame booze for it either. I get drunk to the bejezus at these types of fests, and I'm yet to wreck a room.

Oi Vey!!!!

I am going to be a fence sitter here and say that I see both sides of the coin.

Sure, absolutely nothing wrong with having the time of your life at a fest. For the travelers esp, you probably go more all-out than the locals, considering the greater effort to get there, via long road trip or flight. Completely understood.

I completely agree with you (as well as booB, DarkTide, and Diabolik). It shows poorly on us as maintaining the dumbass metalhead stereotype.

For once, I agree with Diabolik....:OMG: lol

I know that I don't post here often, but I do agree that just because this is a weekend to have fun, it doesn't mean that you need to trash a place.
I also know that some of you guys were definitely under age and partaking in the alcohol, and other un-named substances that weekend. If the cops would have showed up, and saw that the under agers were "wasted" and doing stupid shit, not only would THEY have gotten arrested and their mommies and daddies called, but everyone who WAS there and over 21 would have been arrested for contributing to the delinquincy of minors.
This is supposed to be a weekend of metal, good times, and commeraderie.
While talking to the lady who booked my room for next year, knowing that I was going to Powerfest, she said that what happened last year will absolutely not be tolerated this year...the cops WILL be called.
I don't blame them, let's hope that shit doesn't get spread on the walls, or that piss doesn't trickle down the stairwell...it will just ruin it for everyone. We're all old enough to know better.

This is where I was going with my post.
Luckily no one got busted.

Maybe some don't fully understand the consequences of their actions.

The parties get busted, word will get back to the Pearl Room.
The end result could be the loss of the venue for future Powerfests.

I know some of the younger guys and gals here think we all look like boring old farts, but we speak from experience. We have experienced clubs getting shut down, people getting busted, etc from such behavior.

I do agree that the trashing of hotel rooms is completely uncalled for. I did have a room at the Super 8 on the floor reserved for Powerfest last year. At any given time I had 20 people in my room, but nobody was allowed that I didn't know (or at least was a friend of someone I knew) and nobody was allowed to start trashing crap in my room. The worst that happened was a lampshade being dismantled and used for hilarity in pictures, but it was reassembled and no harm was done. Myself and a friend that shared the room with me even went so far as to clean up 95% of the bottles in our room the morning of check out. I always feel bad about that stuff. Truthfully, I didn't know how bad things went down outside the mess in the hallway because I didn't venture to anyone else's room (or the stairwell for that matter). I figured most of the mayhem was occurring on that one floor, but perhaps guests in other parts of the building were being bothered. I have no clue. You can party, just don't party. ;-)

I did already book a room at The Super 8 for 2008. Let's not get the cops involved, eh?

^^I don't think anyone is singling people out. We were all guilty of contributing to noise. I think the main issue here is crossing the line...pissing/shitting/vomiting all over the place or destroying property.

Well, Diabolik sure thinks that the fest was destroyed by solely the people that stayed in my room. Also, the people bitching about it all should realize that they can probably still book a room as long as they don't mention the fest. Yes, stupid shit was done at the hotel. But nobody (Diabolik) should point fingers when he didn't even go to the after party to see the mess that was the hallway. Sure, toilet paper was on the wall, but there weren't any illegal drugs in our room. I could go on and on about shit we didn't do, but I still realize stuff we did was stupid and wrong. Oh well! Can't change the past. Perhaps this will make EVERYONE (aka: not just ME) realize their error.

Well.....I can honestly say that Powerfest people are not the only ones who get rowdy....we booked a room to stay the night Symphony X played the Pearl Room, and were told the elevator was broken because of the partiers who attended (can you believe it?) the Jimmy Buffet show the night before.
No one is singling out anyone.....I just thought I would post and say what the lady at the hotel told me.....let's just call it a "heads up" for this year eh?

I wasn't in the hotel last year, but I overheard people in the crowd talking about it and honestly I don't really have an opinion on it. It's pretty much expected. This many people at a weekend metal fest = some people fucking shit up. It's bound to happen. Not saying that's a bad thing, because honestly as long as the cops don't come, I don't really care.

edit: And for the record, me and probably 4 or 5 friends are gonna stay in the hotel this year.

I'll just add one thing to this:

Rarely ever have I seen a fest get a block of rooms at the same hotel twice. Usually the hotel does it once, realizes theres a party, the cops get called, everyone leaves after the fest is over and the hotel is forgotten.

I like the location of the Super 8 to the venue and train station, so I'll just stay there since it is very convenient regardless of where everyone else stays.

Never said they were justified. Just that they're expected, and there's not much you can do about it.

I was actually talking to EricT, as he seems so "Whatever, it's a metal fest" about it.

His comment reads such as, "Who cares, we party, destroy Hotel #1, and move on to Hotel #2 for next year anyways...."
