a question ???

why kalmah aint famous like children of bodom ??some giime some answers plz

my idea would have alot to do with Touring.
Kalmah doesn't play that many show's, due to responsibilities they have at home(read that in an interview with Pekka somewhere) such as school, work, etc.

There are probably other reason's as well though.

yea, CoB have been to the U.S before plenty of times. Kalmah have never been to the U.S. I bet if they would tour over in the U.S., they would get so many new fans. they are going to Canada so that should help their popularity.

The music industry is messed up in the first place, because bands like fall out boy are bigger than kalmah and I think you really don't even need a greater explanation than that. There are alot of bands that don't get the recognition they deserve. I bet you never heard of a band called mirrorthrone. This band is probably the greatest hidden gem in metal. Take a listen http://www.myspace.com/mirrorthrone

The touring aspect probably has a lot to do with it. However, publicity and other aspects of getting a bands name out has to do with it. Although, alot actaully has to do with the music itself. COB music to me, sounds a lot more mainstream/commercial, it probably is alot "easier to understand" by a lot more people. Kalmah's music is more complex, you have to have a ear for it and you have to have a little bit more of a grasp on music.

It is easier for people to listen to COB and hear a cool keyboard riff and hear harsh vocals than it is to listen to kalmah's high/low vocals. If one is not used to screaming vocals, it is hard for them to like bands like kalmah. COB was actually my transition band that got me into death metal bands. Though kalmah was the first band that I actually liked that had low vocals (they didn't bother me like say Cannibal Corpse's vocals, which I still don't like today). Today, Kalmah is my favorite band, but they weren't instantly my favorite band. It was only until I listened to them for a while that I understood them.

that should pretty much sum up any questions...haha

I agree with you Fry8!! I've liked Mirrorthrone for a long time! They have a new album entitled "Gangrene" (of course im sure you know). It should be AMAZING! Vladimir Cochet is a GENIUS!

Ya I know and on his myspace it has sayed "Gangrene" coming soon for like over a month and it says that the release date is sometime this march and I am anxiously awaiting it. I didn't even want to hear the samples until I can actually get the real album. There are various other bands which I consider to be hidden gems. If you like kalmah and/or mirrorthrone, you better check these bands out. http://www.myspace.com/thearcaneorder http://www.myspace.com/axamenta
http://www.myspace.com/blindedbyfaith I have only heard their album, entitled "Weapons of mass distraction"
Don't really know how popular these guys are, but I liked their "testify for my victims" album alot http://www.myspace.com/carnalforgeband
You guys have probably heard of these guys before, but if you like kalmah, you'll definitely like these guys http://www.myspace.com/catameniaband
http://www.myspace.com/destinity
http://www.myspace.com/hacride
http://www.myspace.com/martriden
http://www.myspace.com/soulfallen

There are more bands that are hidden gems that I could name, but these bands certainly need more recognition that they deserve.

yaeh kalmah and for examp;ea alot of my friends are not metal heads but they cant listen to cob but they dont stand KALMAH music of cob easy to listen and understand

True, True! lol swampazz. Ya bodom did get alot of the mainstream audience, with their "are you dead yet" album. Their new album "blooddrunk" is even worse.

Their previous album "Under An Occult Sun" is fucking better.

If you're curious and want to know others Quebec bands:

QUO VADIS (Death Metal).
For me, the drummer of this band is probably the best drummer of the world...

KATAKLYSM (Death Metal).
You probably know this one. They are with Nuclear Blast.
Their new album will be out soon.

Ya I heard one song from their last album and it sounded killer, but I couldn't find their album, but I have been meaning to check their last album out for a while now. I have been listenting to both quo vadis and unexpect for a while. Quo vadis is pretty cool and unexpect surely lives up to their name, very unique. Quo vadis was the first band that got me into really fast metal. I am actually currently listening to Septic Flesh's new album and it's pretty good you should check them out if you haven't yet.
