The Karelian Isthmus is by far the best thing Amorphis has done and nothing else form them even comes close imo. The first half of that album is near perfect.

Doesn't get a whole lot of credit these days due to much of Amorphis' later material despite being a great example of Finnish death metal. It's surprising how many fans of this band I've met who have heard Tales but not this.

Privilege of Evil and The Karelian Isthmus are the only things that I like by this band. My opinion about which style of production works better for their early death metal sound varies depending on my mood.

Under the Red Cloud was amazing. Didn't give a fuck about the most recent one.

but i AM the out-crowd and i also think those two are without a doubt their best work. Elegy isn't bad though so i'll give you that. It was also the first Amorphis album i heard/bought back when i was a wee little lad.

I don't mind the stuff with the new vocalist. They still write some good riffs. That Tuonela / Am Universum era was truly awful though.

I'll agree. I like some of the songs but it's overall flat. That run from Eclipse through Skyforger is absolutely amazing though. I still need to buy Circle and the first two albums. Sold those years ago for whatever reason.
