ugh!! Trapped i am gonna have to agree with you!!! There's a few great tracks on it, but in general, it does seem much less interesting than TCM or APP!! I really liked APP better than TCM, so i assumed with the natural progression i would LOVE NBC, but they really toned down the harmonies and went more for a sound based almost solely on the rhythm of the guitars and not so much the notes! ahh well... I know about 70% of the people here disagree with me because i remember the debate and i was actually really expecting to love the album... but no... APP remains my favorite, with TCM behind it and Steelbath Suicide and NBC tied for last...

They took another big turn with NBC. If you notice I don't think there's one blastbeat in the whole thing. They have some really good riffs and grooves though, which is what got me liking them in the first place (got some songs from APP).

The production is REALLY good though. I thought the last had it good, but I listened again after hearing NBC and it sounds like crap in comparison. Kind of. It's denser sounding. Sort of like MAYH compared to BWP.

I kind of wish they had more odd timed stuff like Follow the Hollow, but oh well.

yea, i definetly like APP the best...NBC is a good album, but there isn't much stand out stuff...all the songs are equally good. APP has several tracks which stand out a lot that i always find myself coming back to. I don't like the balance between heavy and mellow in NBC...clean vocals and melody are used too much, which just brings the effect of the clean parts down overall...it's still a great album, but not their best

At the Gates rip off? they sound nothing like them

Its a big chance and it will not please everyone. I think soilwork was aware of it and thats very mature, i dont want a fan pleasing band, i rather see them experiment whenever they fail or succed ( to me they experiment improved them, then again im a sucker for that new style ala dt's haven or damage done )

I did not like APP as much as the first two, so I was hesitant to get NBC. To my surprise, I love NBC. I like all of Soilworks cds, and they all are different. Soilwork are one of my alltime faves now.

As for Soilwork being an At The Gates ripoff  They have progressed light years beyond At the Gates talents, and are much more interesting and powerfull than AtGates ever was.

Purely ridiculous. First off I like both bands and don't agree with the original person who said Soilwork rips off At the Gates, the two bands are going for something different. At the Gates is more sinister and nasty-evil sounding. They achieve their goal much better than Soilwork. Soilwork changes their goal from album to album in pretty significant fashion...not saying there is necessarily anything wrong with that, but At the Gates serves a stronger purpose to me b/c they stick to a musical goal and achieve in in spectacular fashion. If you say "At the Gates" everyone knows exactly what you are talking about as opposed to Soilwork where one must ask "Album number 1,2,3, or 4?" I guess I'm saying At the Gates stand for something a bit stronger.

I believe band names are tied to intelligence to some degree. For example a band named "Cake" "Mighty Joe Plum" "Weezer" or "Yellow Dog biscuit" almost have to suck don't they? Hahaha! You could almost say the same for "Soilwork" I mean....picture a bunch of dudes having formed a death metal band and are sitting around having a beer trying to think of the name of their band and some jerk yells out "SOILWORK!!!" and the other dudes are like........YEAH!! I mean.......these guys can't be as talented as "At the Gates."

If you actually took the above seriously and are pissed, consider the first paragraph. At the Gates are original and have more meaning. If not for In Flames, A predator's Portrait would never exist. Anyone who would aruge that point otherwise either A) hasn't listened to the cd's from these two bands B) is tone deaf C) is stupid. Take your pick.

Metal88 (hoping he has REALLY pissed someone off here)

First of all, my At the Gates slam was meant half-heartedly. It just pisses me off when someone claims that such and such band is a ripoff/copy of another band. Only a complete idiot does not realize that EVERY band is influenced and touched by other bands/musicians that have recorded/existed prior to that band. There is no 100% original music. Furthermore, every intelligent and honest musician will openly admit that they were touched or influenced by other bands and musicians. There have been plenty of bands that used material/style/structure from other bands, and did it BETTER than the original band.

Basicall, everthing musical is a derivative of music that happened before. To say that APP wouldn't have happened without In Flames is irrelevant. Since In Flames or ATG wouldn't have happened without Iron Maiden, which wouldn't have happened without Black Sabbath, which wouldn't.... ect ect ect.

Music is subjective, either you like it or you don't. However, all music is deivative of other music, so to call someone a copy or a ripoff is pointless, simple-minded and irrelevant.

(Now I hope I pissed off some people:grin: !)

You dont piss off anyone. YOu just show everyone you are a typical elitist closeminded opeth fan. Like half the forum is. You seem to love originality in a band but then you seem happier if they keep that originality sound throughout the years. Like Opeth or at the gates, neither band has done a complete 180 in their careers, and soilwork has done dramatic changes. Shure when DT comes along with skydancer, ocaet, the gallery, the minds I, projector, haven, and damage done everyone goes nuts over their evolution. But since soilwork isnt an established legend they need to keep doing the same album over and over.

I think Soilwork sucks!Just an another At the gates rip off...
Hahahahaha!!! What a load of crap, come on man, you have probably only heard The Chainheart Machine, there was some comparision with At The Gates but NBC has NOTHING to do with At The Gates, Soilwork have definitely created their own style now, they are supreme songwriters and instrumentalists, better instrumentalists than At The Gates for sure.

Nothing bad about At The Gates though, they rule too. Soilwork CRUSH the recent In Flames too by the way.

LISTEN to Soilwork man, one simply has to acknowledge their qualities, whether you like their music or not.

chainheart machine was great.... i love that album. i love the new one two. i love all of them. to say they are a at the gates rip off is just fuckin dumb. maybe the first album but thats it. the rest is not even comparible.

I pretty much agree with this statement...It is more interesting when Bands try new things..But,I think Soilwork has taken a turn for the worse with Natural Born Chaos...
