right on, Trapped, I agree.

That's why I've tried to get my friends who are big into Tool into Opeth as well. Some of them not being into metal haven't quite gotten over Mikael's growling parts as of yet, but they hear the greatness of Opeth nonetheless :)

Yep, I do the same thing. I try and get my friends listening to Opeth, and if they can like Opeth, the road opens up for other bands like, In Flames, DT, Soilwork and other melodic bands.

I started this thread, and I finally picked up a Tool cd, Undertow.
My Reaction...YAWNNNNNNNN:rolleyes:! Sounds like a bad Pearl Jam grunge knock off (and I dislike Pearl Jam). Now I know this guy is a good singer because I have, and like, A Perfect Circle CD; but on this Undertow cd, I can just see him singing in the pseudo-emotional Eddie Vedder clenched teeth style of singing, yeach! And the music is this repetitive "soulfull" crap.
I gather from the posts that the newest two are more musically interesting, if I find one used and I have a few extra bucks maybe I'll check it out, but from what I've heard, I don't get it at all.

Compared to later releases, 'Undertow' is almost straightforward rock. With 'Ænima,' they created a beautiful blend of hard and progressive rock (I recommend the songs 'Pushit,' 'Eulogy,' and 'Third Eye."), and with 'Lateralus,' they're pretty much prog with hard rock influence.

By the way, if you really dislike Tool after actually LISTENING to them, then your opinion is your opinion... but FUCK the metal 'tr00pers' who condemn Tool as poseur-metal mallcore just because mallcore kids like them.

I found that back in the day tool were a bit less organized .. but did you ever see pictures of them recording these days?... the walls are covered with numbers and letters.. it's crazy.. you can either criticize them it or be amazed .. I choose to be amazed and for all of you who choose to not be a part that than I feel bad for you ..
