Audiogalaxy... Gone!?!

There is always gonna be another program. This one was great to find out about new bands, but I think that the number of people that don't buy CDs far outnumbers people like us who are looking for new bands and only download a few songs. So I can partly see where this comes from.
What I do think is so fucking stupid, is how these people say they want to protect the value of music. So how is taking something like this away going to help? The value of music is not how many millions of dollars people like the backstreet boys make.

I'll be buying less CD's now...
How the hell can you say that. That is really dumb. Is Audiogalaxy's existence your full motivation to buy CD's? I certainly hope not. I just bought 10 CD's without help from Audiogalaxy. To depend completely on something like Audiogalaxy for introduction to music is just as bad as taking it away. Don't get me wrong, I love Audiogalaxy, but like Jim said music discovery should exist on more than stealing it like it has for decades.

It's all about the pop acts that wanna grab up every single cent that they can milk out of the public. I have no doubt that closing AG down would not affect major-label pop acts, because if you've noticed, their shit is promoted just about everywhere you look.... However this is a major blow to the metal scene and unknown bands everywhere....

I don't see their fucking problem though... I understand that musicians need to make a living out of their earnings, but those goddamned major labels already have multi million dollar cashflow happening and closing AG down would hardly do anything to them.... I know that bands like Opeth seem to hardly get any money from what they do (better than any fucking pop act) but do you see them complaining? Are they launching cases against AG? No... They aren't losing any profit from it... they're gaining if anything and all of that is beside the point as the main issue here is the music, not the money. I hope that next time they decide to go on another napster-clone witch hunt that they be more selective in what they fucking target...

I've noticed that most metal bands' official websites usually have some sort of mp3s for you to download, which has been helpful for me since I'm on the internet most of the time from work, where I have to use a piece-of-shit Macintosh, and AG was never made for mac. that was a long sentence. but i do agree that being able to hear a band's music via mp3 has prompted me to buy over 50 CDs in the past year. Unfortunately, I feel metal will suffer somewhat from this, even if it's only a temporary setback for the trading community.

You're kidden me!

I waited too long to see what AG was all about as it is. Now...what, 3 months after total endulgence...bye bye! Oh well. So ya trade between friends and rely on other people to hook you up rather than just go to this website anytime of day and download music. I was jumping on AG with a new list of names to check out almost every other day. It is a cool thing to have available.

There will be a replacement soon enough, but PLEASE make sure its homeoffice is NOT located in USA. If AG's office was for example in Germany, anything like this wouldn't have happened. Sad indeed. :(

But, like Izual said, you can download a few songs from official bandsites and find new bands that way. And of course you can always check mp3.com. And I just downloaded a handful of Bathory songs from WinMX.

Remember, its us users who make those programs work. If no one uses them, there will never be more than a few mp3s to download. I understand though, that most of the programs out there aren't by any means comparable to AG.

You obviously don't know me.

here's one for Jim, who gave a very useful advice to "use one's brain." now i'm really curious, what useful advice (utilizing your own brain) can you give to people from countries like Ukraine, where there's _no such thing_ as a legal music CD shop whatsoever? and "mail order" is not an option, 'cause it is so insecure here, and the price one CD ($20) equals, for example, the amount of my student's payment for 2 months. so?

you can retort with the usual "anyone who affords a computer and an internet connection ... ...", but the computer is a very expensive thing to buy for most of the people here, sort of "once in five years", even considering that the prices are quite cheap in comparison to those in the "developed West". computers here are not sold as "brand-name", they are assembled at small, almost underground businesses or sold by components. the internet is also quite cheap, and its monthly cost for me is about 1/3 of the price of one single CD. the internet and russian mp3-pirates are the most realistic way for people like me to get music (including metal).

I just erased a giant tirade on this, but I decided to have people not ROARINGLY hate me any more than they do... so I'll keep it short and not so inflammatory.

I don't believe in welfare.

So I don't believe your situation, unfortunate that it may be, gives you the right to have something for free that is being sold.

If music is THAT important to you, you'd get yourself somewhere you can get it honestly.
