Australian Idol 2006

I heard a bit of country while I was in Tasmania over the weekend. The combination of those two factors almost made me want to root a cousin, but luckily I didn't have one there.

Good bottom three. I would have swapped Reigan for Ricky, but she wouldn't have been far off either, so all good.

I think Joseph and Lavina were there because they have done the same old stuff that has been on the show the last 3 years, and I for one am bored with it. Joseph probably would have done better waiting a couple of years and getting his confidence up, but meh.

Ricky wasn't bad, but not brilliant. Rock does suit him better than RnB though.

Lisa bombed again, but was getting more confident towards the end. Third strike and she should be out, though.

Mutto bombed out on the falsetto, but other than that he was pretty good. Shame he didn't pick something that really rocked, but it suited him.

Klancie was great, but can't escape the country sound, it's in her voice. Again, does what she does well though.

Reigan sounded as good as she has thus far, but her love for picking underground songs will probably be the end of her, which is a shame, as she wasn't the worst by any means.

Bobby sounded good, but the song went nowhere. He will have to do something different at some stage to last in the comp though.

Damien was awesome as usual. I agree with Mark that he should do a little less vocal gymnastic though...less is more.

Jessica was awesome, and her age doesn't show when she performs which is the opposite to Lisa. She should go far.

Chris rocked and showed more range than he had previously which was good because it shows he is more of a contender. Hope he gos far as well.

Lavina is a good singer, but she didn't suit the song at all. Her pronunciation put her out of time, and it was bad. It seemed she was trying a little too hard as well. Didn't really get into it. Meh.

Dean's vocal was really lazy. His worst yet. Needs to pick up his game if he will go as far as people are saying he will.

Best: Bobby, Chris, Lavina

Worst: Mutto (purely for singing a Coldplay song), Lisa (woeful - get her off now), Dean (if he looked like me he wouldn't be on the show)

Shit, Shit and Shitter.

That Karnivool song was cool. I like her. She has nice boomba's!

It's funny.... a number of those songs were perfromed on Rockstar not 2 weeks ago... They should have seen Lukas and Magni inparticular do Creep... then they wouldn't have touched it cause he came nowhere near as good as they did it. I know I know, I shouldn't compare but it's too hard not to.

I think the environment might have something to do with that as well. On Rockstar they are performing with a band, and on Idol it is more of a karaoke environment. I am sure Damien would have come across better in that more 'rock band' environment, because vocally he was awesome.

I admire her for not compromising herself by doing songs she knows people have heard, and instead trying to win the show based on her own vocal ability rather than hoping people will vote for her because she sings a well-known tune.

Assuming that's what she was doing, of course.

The judges are tools.

"You have to listen to what the majority are saying and do what they want." That goes against everything I believe about music.

The biggest tool if Marcia. I think it was the last singer whoever he was where Mark told him (correctly) that the whole thing was under pitch, then Marcia said "Don't listen to Mark, you were fine, but you've got to find places in the songs to relax and find your pitch again".

Mark picked her up on it but she just ignored it all together.

I've got no respect for Marcia at all. At least as a judge.

I thought the whole idea of this season of Idol was to find real original talent. Singing an unknown song by a street-level band is as close to doing an original song you can get without actually doing one. If it had been one of her own songs that she'd done, she still would have got the boot, because the droogs who vote only vote for stuff they are familiar with. That's why I dislike the whole Idol process. I reckon it should be like Rockstar inasmuch as the public vote, and then the judges pick which one of the bottom three goes. That way, you don't have a situation where a clearly very good performer is voted off because they have an off-night or sing something no one knows. And Marcia is shit as a judge. She's too conciliatory. People can't grow if they're being mollycoddled.
