Bands pretending their next album will be great

Ghost Reveries kicked ass.

In Flames. Now they're a shitty band always pretending the next album will be great.

Well it was true for the first 6 (argueably 7) albums.

Soundtrack had one great song "My Sweet Shadow" and Clarity had one great song "Crawl Through Knives" (and perhaps "Dead End") the rest was filler, they need to get Anders Friden out of that band!

Eh, I think Come Clarity is actually alright... nothing even close to their pre-clayman stuff, but better than the last two I think.

Really? I suppose I can maybe see where you're coming from, if any other lesser band had wrote such an album most people wouldn't have minded, but it's In Flames. Can it really be the same band that wrote the stunningly aggressivley beautiful "December Flower" turning out dirge like "Take This Life"?

I guess as long as the big mass of people doesn't find out that there's music other than what comes out of the radio and the tv, and the media keeps being in control of what people do as far as music etc... is concerned, bands will continue selling out and bringing out bad albums that sell tons, while they are capable of much more.
Musical indoctrination is almost as bad as religious indoctrination.

The result is Ghost Reveries. An album with ghosts and such.
lol

a sorta proper thread! finally!

it could as well be that bands get quite annoyed telling bout the stuff they've been up to all over and over again, with journalists asking them same questions.
The funniest interview with Mike I have seen started with a question about Mike's grandma.
WHAT THE ..?!?!?!

than some journalists/ fans might not be quite aware what the band's all about and just misunderstand the message.

maybe its your own fault for not keeping up?
good one!

Come Clarity is pretty horrible, I can not even bare to listen to this album. I don't understand people saying that songs like 'Take this life' or 'Leeches' are even remotely good. I am very curious as to why this band hasn't broken up, or gotten a new singer. Apparantly they all agree that this is where the band should be headed. Unforetunately no true fan wants to hear the bands shit take on "The Ice Cream" song. :erk:

Well, do you guys think that Martin could pull off some black metal beats? I'm not saying he can't. But with the addition of Axe it might be...better( ? ) because he drums in Bloodbath. The influences that they will lose from Lopez might not be that big of a deal. Though I really do like the stuff he added for Closure and a couple tracks off of GR. He is a great drummer don't get me wrong he was awsome the one time I saw him and I think it was the right thing to do. Opeth writes songs because that's how they want to play them. Mikael said it perfectly when he said he doesn't want his band to be fucking pretty. From that what ever he writes I am sure will be gold.

wtf...anyone who has seen opeth live can attest that mikael is a pretty funny guy. im positive the 45 minute black metal song was a joke. bands make the music they want to make for whatever reason. GR is a great album so why complain? I personally tend to listen to GR as an album instead of by individual songs, so technically what im hearing sounds like one continuous song.

i second Sinisteria, great album
actually it exceeded my expectations,
give the satriani fan sometime until the album gets 'dark and old' to him
again, in my opinion, GR is as good as all their albums, i'm not a big damnation fan though

Until Opeth starts putting out hip hop albums I will continue to fork over the money to buy their new CD. Can't say that about the majority of bands out there.

Personally, I find this whole "selling out" debate rather childish. Normally it is kids who find some sort of identity in the form of listening to a band they see as "underground" or "special", then when they are recognized more broadly for the musical contributions they make the band has suddenly "sold out". Childish absurd nonsense.

So you DON'T know that the two bands Martin was in before Amon Amarth were both Black Metal bands. Check out the FAQ/Requiem Aeternam.

And have you NOT heard his work in Amon Amarth. I think it's safe to say that Martin most definitely CAN play black metal. I suppose the question would be whether or not he'd WANT to.

I actually forgot that he was in Amon...I havent heard of the other. But yes I guess then the question would be would he want to do it.

Thank God Mike didn't decide to write 30 minute black metal epics. Even if he actually said that (not sure) and was serious (I highly doubt that if he DID say it) it would have sucked. Not even Opeth could inject any shred of life or goodness into that template.
