Bands that make you feel... something

To avoid risking understatement, Bach is the paragon of musical excellence, and Beethoven and Mozart sucked his cock daily.
...no.

I think Vivaldi and Mozart to be the pop stars of the baroque and classical eras respectively. Bach within the context of Baroque far surpasses the rest. Noone mastered counterpoint and harmony like that then.
I like Tchaikovsky but he is before the madness. The two composers Int suggested are ones I would have. In addition I would rec Shostakovich. I guess Stravinsky is worth mentioning. Hes the big name from then. You probably have heard him. I don't really listen to much from him though.

And again I have to clarify I am neither emo in appearance nor personallity. I enjoy seeing them bleed.

Syphony X - The Odyssey... now that is a hell of an album, and truly makes me want to go on an adventure
Damn, I forgot that one, great song, it captures the spirit of the book perfectly.

I also forgot Evergrey with Englund's passionate singing, so much anger and despair; and Blind Guardian gets to me when they sing about Middle Earth (yeah, it's cheesy, so what? I'm a huge Tolkien fan).

Interesting post up there by Sorath about feelings when listening to black metal... thinking about it, Dimmu Borgir does make me feel a little evil...

Well dimmu isnt troo hhhahahah i laugh at your untrooness hahahaah
jk

Bands that move me on both a spiritual and emotional level:
Neurosis
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
A Silver Mount Zion
Emperor
Dead Can Dance
Agalloch
Robert Fripp

Bands that move me more just on an emotional level (mostly has to do with the purpose behind the band if you ask me...)
Opeth
King Crimson
Pink Floyd
Tori Amos
Fiona Apple
My Dying Bride

All bands I listen to make me feel something, otherwise I wouldn't be listening to them. =) As for bands/albums/songs that make me feel particularly strongly, well....there's too many of them for me to concisely list either.

Opeth - Listening to Opeth can have two very different effects. Sometimes it will make me feel depressed and sad while at other times it makes me feel very calm and happy.

Slayer - After popping a Slayer classic like Hell Awaits or Reign in Blood, I usually have intense feelings of agression or anger, which usually compel me to bang my head and sing-along. This is usually experienced more extremely when watching a Slayer dvd.

Morbid Angel - Desire to cause destruction and violence

Children of Bodom - Most Bodom makes me feel really pumped up and excited because of the speed and complex melodies. Also, some of the keyboard solos like the one at the end of "Lil' Blood Red Riding Hood" make me feel very sad.

Emperor - Like most good black metal, listening to Emperor is like the audio equivalent to chaos.

Bongzilla - Hearing Bongzilla or any other stoner metal makes me want to toke up. :Smokin:

Blind Guardian - They move me in so many different ways that it's hard to describe. They're very uplifting and powerful, but at the same time, brooding and beautiful.

Iced Earth - They're dark and gritty and at times caught in despair. They're the perfect music to get me through a rough day or with the slower stuff, relax at the end of one.

Iron Maiden - They've got the type of uplifting power that's tough and gives me the strength to do anything and not be afraid of it. It's the kind of metal that beats the sense into someone without hurting them if you catch my drift.

Metallica - They're one of the most real true grit metal bands because they get down to your heart and soul and you can relate with everything they sing about, even if it's something too extreme for you, like being locked in a sanitarium or being a drug addict or having suicidal thoughts. They've been with me since I first got into metal and they're never leaving that place in my heart.

Warlock - Doro brings that element of girl power to metal that strengthens and lifts me up in the harshness of everyday life. She's also willing to let out her softer side and show she needs love and can give much love in return.
