Bathory's first three albums

Bergtatt is one of the few albums that I could classify as "perfect". And I agree with J, get ANY Sigh and ANY Graveland. I haven't heard the Fleurety, but I want to...

I've never heard Graveland's music, but there is something uber-ghey about them that puts me off, something intangible.

:tickled:

Nevertheless, if you don't get Following the Voice of Blod, Immortal Pride, and Thousand Swords, it is you that is uber-ghey. :dopey:

Hmm... The Shadowthrone and Dark Medieval Times are usually a hit or miss with people. I'd reccomend listening to some tracks before you make the purchase. I can, however, reccomend their third album to everyone.

Mother North = <3 <3 <3

The first two are grim folky black metal, yes?

I shall check out Graveland, for even an uber-ghey image cannot put me off from the music forever. :p

I was going to check out Satyricon by getting the Enslaved split, but it didn't make the final cut on my last order. I'm interested in them though.

Hmm... I never really thought to call it folky black metal, but there are some very tasteful acoustic parts in the songs. Some of the riffs are sort of "meh", but other ones can be simply stunning. I think that's the problem with the album for some people, it has a lot of ups and downs. I personally like it alot! Some of their music seems just goofy to me, like the beginning of Vikingland.

Just make sure you know what you're buying wth them. THey have three different phases.

another old school type release is Cruachan's awesome debut. Far removed from the happy go lucky rock n' folk of today.

If you're going old-school, DO NOT miss Tormentor!! The 7th Day of Doom was recently released on vinyl and I think it's better than Anno Domini and it definately shows why Attila was picked as the replacement for Dead... The second best vocalist to replace the best one ever. Sarcòfago - INRI also deserves mention in this thread of kickassness

It would have been pretty fucking weird/awesome if Varg did the vox on that album (because they wouldn't really fit at all).

It's pretty good symphonic black metal. Yeah, more black metal oriented, but he also has a little of that drone you complain about.

J. - I've always wondered why you don't have the first 2 or 3 Satyricon albums. They are indeed folky, black metal. They are a bit grim, but NOTHING like Transylvanian Hunger or anything. I pretty much guarantee you will be into them.
