Best Metal Drummers

Dirk Verbeuren
Gene Hoglan
Tim Yeung (maybe not the best but I still think highly of him)

seriously though, Dirk Verbeuren.

and Dennis Roendum from Spawn of Possession.

Christian Leitch, after hearing this man's performance on the 40 Watt Sun album i'm inclined to give him a mention. One of the things that differentiates this album from Warning.

I second Pete Sandoval from Morbid Angel and Inferno from Behemoth. How has Flo Mounier not been mentioned? (Or did I miss it?)

Well obviously Cryptopsy is pure shit nowadays, but Blasphemy Made Flesh and None So Vile are amazing -- the riffing, the drumming, the vocals, and even the slap bass are all examples of death metal done right.

Simon O'Laoghaire from Primordials drumming always gets me. A lot of nice touches hidden in it.

o_O He's an average drummer at best, and the weakest link in Primordial.

The best metal drumming performance I've heard is Dave Thomas (ex-Estradasphere) on Sculptured's Embodiment. Almost everything else about the album fades into the background when listening to this incredibly technical, subtle and original performance.
