Best of 2005 - new, old, on the fence, disappointing, and still to come

Nonanthropogenic was cool. Nothing original, but has some solid groove and good songs. I'm interested in hearing what they've brought to the table this time.

The new Queens of the Stone Age kicks my dick in, could be the best album Josh Homme has ever done, including Kyuss. At first I just thought it was typical Queens, but there's another level going on and the guitar work is mind boggling at times. Plus it has Billy Fucking Gibbons man, come on!

New Ulver next month, anybody know what day? Jester site just says April 2005. ME WANTS!!!

Yeah man, that new Queens of the Stone Age is really really good. I'm very upset because they were playing in Hartford tonight and I couldn't go :(

I'm not going to get to see them out here, tix went by lightning quick. Sucks.

I think a whole lot of people here would dig the new Queens even if you aren't a fan of their previous stuff. The fucking leads are KILLER. I just wish I had my own copy but it's still in transit. :(

I can't read this whole fucken thread! Can someone summarize? :D

The only albums worth owning so far this year are as follows:

Primordial - The Gathering Wilderness
Frantic Bleep - The Sense Apparatus
Meshuggah - Catch 33
Cursed - II
Open Hand - You and Me
Buried Inside - Chronoclast
Jesu - s/t

I'm sure the new Nile will be worth it as well. Plus the new Unsane should be sweet.

This is basically a summary of this entire thread. Don't bother listening to anybody else. Oh . . . and the new Soilwork isn't nearly as bad as GayKeeley would have you believe.

Ohh I know that BWD liked V:28, I was adressing herr Møøse. BWD snuck a post inbetween there. V:28 is really cool, they have a cold, machine like quality to some of their songs I like.

Here my 2005 albums:

BURIED INSIDE -Chronoclast
CALLISTO - True Nature Unfolds
JESU - Jesu
MERCURY REV - The Secret Migration
MOONSORROW - Verisäkeet
PRIMORDIAL - The Gathering Wilderness
TAAKE - Hordaland Doedskvad

2005 hasn't been the crushing vintage thus far, but the few good albums that have been spawned in the first quarter are good!
Even the new Mercury Rev, at first a brutal let-down, is starting to reveal very nice qualities with time.

To the not-yet-released stuff, I'll mention Dredg, Drudkh and Elend (if they prove true to their word about releasing album in 1-year pace) as pretty high-ranking on my expectation list.

Best new releases:

Primordial "The Gathering Wilderness" - their best yet.
Dark Tranquillity "Character" - possibly their best work.
Kamelot "The Black Halo" - infinitely better than "Karma"

Best old shit that I'm only just getting round to:

Badlands "Dusk" - "Voodoo Highway" turned me off to this band. Apparently it was just the sophmore jinx.
Pink Cream 69 "Sonic Dynamite" - never much cared for retro bands, but these guys do it right.
Susperia "Unlimited" - this would have been in my Top of 2004.

On the fence:

Communic "Conspiracy in Mind"
Kreator "Enemy of God"
Lanfear "aNother gOlden rAge"
Novembers Doom "The Pale Haunt Departure"

Disappointing!!!:

Steve Vai "Real Illusions" - Steve, please, STOP singing, you suck at it!

Still to Come:

Nevermore - new CD
Nevermore - "Enemies" remix
Opeth
Russell Allen - solo CD
Sympony X
Vanden Plas
Wolverine
Zero Hour

Zod

here's a summary which is quite obviously incomplete.

That reminds me, the "Medication" full length should also be out this year (2 years late?)

If you like these guys, check out their avant-garde death metal band "Stargazer". The debut full length was released a week or two ago.
