And I agree that Mayhem is overrated to, because they are one of the first, that helps their case to. Musically, they are pretty average. And to say Darkthrone are great is laughable really. There are bands I don't like but know they are great musicians, Darkthrone is far from that. I listen to enough bands and genres to 'get it' buddy!

Playing in a style that is "raw" does not make the musicians necessarily shitty. Listen to Preparing for War, a Darkthrone compilation featuring tunes from the first four records and some live cuts. You may not like what you hear and certainly to a degree what we like is subjective, but I would argue that it is an objective fact that the musicians in Darkthrone can indeed play and play well. I think what you object to is the style. Soulside Journey is much more along the lines of death metal and most of the same musicians played this music.

What I got from his posts was that he listens to the music and will happily download it, just doesn't want to support (or at all fund) Varg's cause by purchasing Burzum CDs. Nothing wrong with that (don't get me wrong, I'm all for paying for music, just not funding retards), and It's diferent than completely boycotting the music.

I used to listen more to black metal, but now I'm discovering more and more death metal. but still, black metal is the more evil in every way! as for musicianship, I think death metal offers more room for complexity and skills, but that's just my opinion perhaps. (I'm not saying black metal is simple, easy music!! I still like black metal)

If I had to make a choice, I would choose black. But neither typical black, nor typical death are my favourite kinds of music. I like music which is OVER things like genre or style, which is difficult to classify, but which is good.

I started off listening to Death Metal, Arach Enemy, In Flames etc. Got into Opeth which i though at the time was Death Metal, i realise now i was wrong, it's got DM elements but over all it's somthing totally different.

I was really put off Black Metal by Darkthrone and Mayhem cause there...well...shite. But one listen to "Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk" and I was hooked on Emperor, the i got into Immoratal, went back to it's roots and got into Venom and Celtic Frost (awesome) and just very recnetly I got into Enslaved.

Overall i listen to more death metal but there's certain black metal bands i really like.

Black metal is more about atmosphere and operatica, most death metal is just sheer technical aggression
