Well they stood out from other NWOBHM bands, obviously. Future bands expanded upon Venom's sound which ultimately created the sound of black metal. That's why I consider them a proto-type.

He wasn't "bluffing." He lied in interviews all the time to build up a mysterious image around his music. He claims to have derived his original sound purely from Motorhead and GBH, which is a crock of shit. He shit on all of the other extreme bands back then.

Fuck yes, their first 3 albums rule, and 666 can properly be considered early Black Metal. Nuclear War Now! Productions recently reissued the first album on vinyl with the original cover art, a patch, a sticker, a large poster, and 666 on splatter vinyl and Metal And Hell on pic disc. Well, that's the die hard version anyway.

i prefer the polish version of their songs on 666 than the english ones on Metal & Hell. they manage to create some truly underground occult atmosphere, similar to the early Mercyful Fate recordings

Yeah, I'm sure most people prefer the Polish version, it just adds a bit to the occult atmosphere. Though, for example, for Turbo (another Polish band), I prefer the English version of Last Warrior over the Polish.

Malignance, I need some more raw Black Metal. I'm talking more specifically about early second wave material, stuff like early Graveland, Ungod, Master's Hammer, Root, etc. Bands with a heavy focus on riffs, yet still with that second wave approach, almost between the first and second wave. Do you have anything like this to recommend me? Preferably stuff that's actually obtainable.
