i heard mikael said that the next opeth album will be "bordering on black metal." what do you guys think about this? good? bad? it might be interesting to hear some blastbeats :kickass:

i don't appreciate that kind of threat. hopefully mr samsara will do what's right and ban you

enough of your fucking retarded threads, die already fuckbag.

This is completely inappropriate behavior. Westknadrian is trying to start a legitimate discussion about one of his favorite bands and you are adding nothing constructive to the discussion. You should be banned.

I believe Ghost Reveries was the album that was supposed to be bordering on black metal not the one that is currently being worked on. I hope that answers your question!

thanks for the help, jon snow! but ghost reveries doesn't sound much like black metal to me at all... except for some of those brutal screams! :)

Yes, it wasn't really black metal. I am not a very big fan of Ghost Reveries because of this. You see westknadrian, I'm a huge black metal fan and my idea of musical diversity is Ulver's Nattens Madrigal album, early Katatonia, and Nile (epic Egyptian prog bm, I think they're actually from Egypt!), so you might say I listen to just about everything. So when Ghost Reveries came out I was extremely dissapointed that it wasn't exactly the same as everything else that I already listen to. I'm also 14 years old and have no social life.

I hope that helps!

very insightful jon snow! it's funny you mention katatonia, because didn't mikael once do vocals on one of their albums?

Don't know if it's 99.9% or 100% useless to discuss anything in this thread (as with most threads), but Ghost Reveries does have some occult and satanic lyrics and it is a metal album...so if Mercyful Fate is considered BM, why not those tracks...

Man, everyone of these ironic threads gets even funnier!

i hope you get banned dude, at least do something fucking funny if you're gonna spew bullshit everywhere

Since no one else is answering your question I guess I will again. Yes, Mikael did all of the vocals on Viva Emptiness and did backing vocals on the new album, The Great Cold Distance. You can hear them especially well on Katatonia's #1 hit single 'My Twin'. Also, Dan Swano is a better songwriter than John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and Bob Dylan combined!

well ghost reveries did have its black metul moments, like in the first 2 songs with all of per's synths (reminded me of burzum). im sure per is going to be more influential in the forthcoming albom, now that peter has left the group.

I think Katatonia should have kept the death vocals because the clean vocals are much less heavy
