Christian Metal

Well I'm going to look at it like this:

If you enjoy the bands (This goes for any genre) and they music they produce, you shouldn't really give a fuck what its called, or what people have entitled it.

------

BTW, TaylorC makes a great point and I respect his point of view on metal.

Yup.

What do you think about the term "anti-Christian ghospel"? Like with a bunch of people clapping their hands praising Satan, dancing and waving their hands every once in a while. It's technically possible but sounds very wrong.
As does Christian metal, especially Christian black metal. Wtf.

There's a whole load of christian ideology that's metal: repression, guilt, rebellion and punishment. The adoption of christian themes in music doesn't necessarily render it automatically lame: (see Trouble et. al.)

I don't find the idea of Christian Black Metal odd at all; after all, living a christian life seems pretty grim to me. The crusaders were (ostensibly) Christian, but they "fucked shit up" (to quote contemporary observers).

(BTW, I'm an atheist.)

Jesus didn't first define or copyright repression, guilt, rebellion and punishment. And most satanic metal bands are either stupid, having fun or just doing it for the cliche.

Then what is this supposed to mean?

It's not that Christian bands are lame, it is just that people associate Christian music with lameness, and it is hard for people to overlook that. I personally am reluctant to try any christian metal bands, even though they are probably no different.

The lameness factor goes beyond music for entertainment. The church I attend every Sunday is one of the few left that has good taste in sacred music. We do Gregorian chants and sing baroque and classical hymns while the organist (my father) plays Bach and Handel and the choir likewise.

Most churches these days, regardless of denomination (though Catholics tend to have better tastes) have literally sold out to gain more of the faithful by putting out more contemporary, upbeat, accessible, almost sing-songy hymns and liturgical responses.

That's something I wouldn't mind attending.

Most people are lame anyways. we're lame

People with satanic idealogies can be just as lame as christians. The problem is not with religion but how lyrics are executed.

Look at deicide, deicide writes the most stupid anti-religious lyrics. A christian band that has cliche lyrics and deicide are the same. Lameness factor is just as evident in metal music as christianity.

I agree on that. Stryper has some stupid lyrics in my opinion but you take Extol and Living Sacrifice for example, they have awesome lyrics. The cliche Satanist lyrics are usually stupid as hell.
