coffee makers

the wifes wealthy uncle has something similar. I had heard stories about it and when I finally saw it, I was like, "uhm...that's it?"

I watched the Coffee episode of Good Eats and Alton Brown says all you need is a thermal carafe and a manual filter, and you heat the water yourself in a tea pot.

Now that's a system that won't break down.

I did that for quite some time. I posted pics on here somewhere.

For my birthday Cara got me a Cuisinart 4 cup dealie. So far it makes coffee hotter than I can physically drink so I guess that's a good thing. 1 week down and it still hasn't broken, I'm on a roll!

As for coffee , first I bought some "Folgier's Gourmet" because it was even cheaper than the walmart brand. Also it is named "gourmet."

And then I bought some highly acclaimed chocolate flavor thing from World Market. It tastes like coffee.

Congrats on the birthday and the Receiving of the Gifts.

Flavored coffee usually sucks. I just ate about a gallon of Starbucks Java Chip ice cream, btw.

Keurig makes a great cup of coffee and it's extremely easy to use once it's hooked up as it's ALWAYS ready to brew.

Just stick in one of the small coffee packs and BAM instant cup without wasting any.

The small coffee packs are not that expensive at all and you have a TON of different styles to choose from. You can just order them online and you have supplies that keep for months and months.

Definitely worth it.

My employer has 3 of these, and they seem to go on the fritz every month. Two of the coffee makers in particular require slamming the tray after insertion. No wam bam, thank you mam, here. You have to coddle the brewer's every need. Slam it too hard, and the K-Cup falls in to the disposal tray. Of course it's probably going through an average of 50 cups a day, but this is commercial equipment we're discussing here.

It must be a cheaper version then because all I can say is that I used a commercial version at my job from 2001 through 2005 with absolutely no problems whatsoever. 400 person office, 4 floors, one on each floor.

Thumbs up to TheGreatDeceiver for the French Press.

Thumbs down on Keurig. I can't comment on the reliability but our main office has one and I get a cup at each staff meeting, which is about once a month, and the coffee is always watery and each type tastes exactly the same. There is a meeting at 1500 today in fact...so I'll be looking forward to a watery tasteless (and free!) coffee here in about two hours. I'm also going to "borrow" a handful of pens and highlighters.

Pics pending or it didn't happen

Jonathan, does the Keurig in question take K-Cups? If so, what brand of coffee does your work purchase? Midnight Express and Eclipse Blend by Van Houton are both bold, black, and bittersweet. The only water to be found, is in your eyes, tears of joy.

K-cups I guess. I have no idea. I only use it about once a month when I actually go to the office.

speaking of coffee, my new coffee mugs rule:

We essentially have five or six threads here at RC. Coffee, beer, album purchases, video games, movies, and occasional porn

I got some "scandinavian" coffee at Trader Joe's today in honor of our "Scandinavian" friends here at RC
