Really chaotic guitar solos suck these days. Let's face it, only a handfull of guitar players can/could play chaotic solos like professionals. Chuck Schuldiner and Kerry King for example. But when mediocre guitarists try to do the same thing it just sounds bad.
If you can't make a chaotic solo sound good, then try to master playing a bit more melodic. At least a melodic solo sounds better when played right than a chaotic solo played wrong.

Iron Maiden is credited with pioneering much more than they ever did (it's as if they invented the guitar harmony to some people) but they're still one of the greatest bands. They are the definitive case of a band that pushed almost no boundaries and instead influenced others simply because of raw sales and marketing.

None of these points are controversial to me. Heres one of mine, not only is Dragonforce one of the greatest power metal bands of all time, they are one of the best bands on the entire planet. Plus Herman and Sam are both fucking amazing guitar players.

I think I remember Kerry king saying that's an urban myth in an interview. There were NWOBHM bands called Dragonslayer and Slayer though.
