Controversial opinions on metal

Obscura's super-sekrit formula of success consists of watering down their influences, in order to make their music ear-friendly and appealing to people who cannot digest Decrepit Birth or Necrophagist.

Retribution : Watered down Death riffs.

Cosmogenesis : Watered down Death riffs + watered down djent + Gothenburg.

Omnivium : Watered down Death riffs + watered down Morbid Angel riffs + watered down djent + Gothenburg + a shitload of acoustic interludes.

:lol::lol:

has to be the funniest post iv read all day ... word for word, pure fail.

for people who cant digest Decrepit Birth or Necrophagist??? lmfao!

Testimony of the Ancients > Consuming Impulse
No.

Testimony of the Ancients > Consuming Impulse

All Pestilence without van Drunen is major suckage. Testimony of the Ancients is generic smorgasbord metal, passing off as an early experimental/progressive death metal masterpiece with fancy guitar solos, extraneous keyboard usage, and worthless interludes, the last of which completely fail at giving the album any sort of continuity that they attempt. There's some standard Obituary-style death metal, some thrash, some traditional doom, none disrespectfully performed or inappropriate with death metal vocals, but all of them boring imitations. Doesn't help that Mameli's voice lacks any passion.

-Most tech-death is shit; nerds wanking their instruments with plastic, inorganic and robotic sound and the songs sound like technique exercises. Of course there are few exceptions like Obscura.

-Shaxul and Hasjarl should have continued with Hirilorn instead of starting Deathspell Omega.

van Dru is overrated as fuck.

Van Drunen almost single-handedly makes this album worth listening to. If a more generic singer had been growling here, the overall quality would also drop immensely.

Implying that Obscura isn't easier on the ears than Decrepit Birth or Necrophagist ? LOL.

seems to me that you havent listened to Polarity.

Testimony of the Ancients is one of Pestilence's top albums, seconded only by Consuming Impluse.

Van Drunen, overrated? no. One of the greatest death metal vocalists of all time? Yes.

Deathspell Omega is one of the best black metal bands around today.

and to all you lame games who had to drop in their "tech death sucks" bs ....
