You tech-death freaks get on my last nerve.

-Most tech-death is shit; nerds wanking their instruments with plastic, inorganic and robotic sound and the songs sound like technique exercises. Of course there are few exceptions like Obscura.

-Shaxul and Hasjarl should have continued with Hirilorn instead of starting Deathspell Omega.

Hirilorn sounds like a mix between early Dissection and early Lord Belial. Not exactly original, but if you like both bands, then Hirilorn's album "Legends Of Evil And Eternal Death" is a must-listen.

All Pestilence without van Drunen is major suckage. Testimony of the Ancients is generic smorgasbord metal, passing off as an early experimental/progressive death metal masterpiece with fancy guitar solos, extraneous keyboard usage, and worthless interludes, the last of which completely fail at giving the album any sort of continuity that they attempt. There's some standard Obituary-style death metal, some thrash, some traditional doom, none disrespectfully performed or inappropriate with death metal vocals, but all of them boring imitations. Doesn't help that Mameli's voice lacks any passion.

van Dru is overrated as fuck.

Van Drunen almost single-handedly makes this album worth listening to. If a more generic singer had been growling here, the overall quality would also drop immensely.

Testimony of the Ancients is one of Pestilence's top albums, seconded only by Consuming Impluse.

Van Drunen, overrated? no. One of the greatest death metal vocalists of all time? Yes.

Deathspell Omega is one of the best black metal bands around today.

I'm not just talking about his voice. The 80's albums were far superior in all respects except in half-assed "progression".

Deathspell Omega is one of the best black metal bands around today.

I would go so far as to say they are without peer. There's a lot of interesting black metal out there, but since "Kenose" DSO has been producing the most ground breaking, powerful black metal.

Tech death can be amazing when done right.
