I always thought of Kyuss' three good albums as being pretty on par with each other tbh.

Controversial or not? Unholy Cult is Immolation's best album. With Failures for Gods coming in at a very close second. Their consistency is staggering but there's just something about Unholy Cult I find immensely powerful.

I gave away all my of Immolation cds and only kept Dawn of Possession.

I really think Immolation can do no wrong. Even their more polished albums are still good. Close to a World Below and Here in After are my favorites though.

Shadows In The Light?

Those two albums could never stick with me. Maybe I should revist them and see where I stand now, its been awhile.

Harnessing Ruin is their low point for sure, but it's still not bad. Shadows in the Light is really good iirc.

Dead Congregation has made them wholly irrelevant today.

Graves of the Archangels is significantly better than anything Immolation has done in over a decade. Promulgation of the Fall is a step backwards and still is better than everything Immolation has done from Harnessing Ruin onward.

Unholy Cult would be my second pick after Close to a World Below. The first five are all fantastic and I could understand any one of them being singled out as a favourite. Easily one of the best streaks in the history of death metal.

Every Immolation album is at least 7/10. Dead Congregation although good is more of a Incantation copy band than Immolation, at least to my ears.
