I mostly like black metal when it's mixed with something that makes the riffs heavier (death/thrash/speed hybrid type stuff) or really weird black metal. What you're describing falls under that umbrella so I'm on board. "Wall of sound" black metal does nothing for me at all.

Yeah man you explained it better than I did, that's exactly what I like too.
Basically anything that has a first wave sound, which is often way less uniform.
