Controversial opinions on metal

I just find the songwriting and lack of flow really grating.

It's like... "Okay boys. We're gonna write a song in 15/8 that changes to 12/8 halfway through. Now throw in some tom rolls in the drum beat so we have a groovy feel here. Perfect. Absolutely fucking solid, we're so fucking prog now."

Reverend Bizarre - II: Crush the Insects

Okay, so one time through and this is what I think:

Standout tracks - Doom Over the World, The Devil Rides Out, Eternal Forest

So, I don't know if it's just been a long time, but I don't remember Reverend Bizarre having hooks like in the first two songs. I did listen to In The Rectory... a long time ago and wasn't really into it. Overall I liked it more than I thought I would. Definitely a Sabbath influence there (duh), but it was subtle enough to maintain some originality.

I plan on listening to it a few more times before scoring it. With doom metal, I will sometimes zone out with the music because it's kinda good for that. The only thing I didn't like was the first two tracks being mid-paced and then the third song slows down significantly. That killed the groove I was having for a minute, but that's a minor gripe.

Overall not bad. Thanks for the rec!
