Both Power Metal and Cowboys from Hell are awesome.Controversial opinion: I like Pantera's Power Metal and select songs from Cowboys from Hell.
Also Phil's vocals on Power Metal are superb imo.

Pantera after Phil joined is awful.
Dimebag Darrell does not deserve any of the accolades he receives. Sorry, he can't write a riff to save his life, and his skills are greatly exaggerated.
Yeah I uhh... don't listen to Motley Crue. Sorry guys.
Only pre-Cowboys Pantera song I dig is Power Metal's title track, and I like it ironically. The guitar work on some of the first few albums is pretty awesome, but the songs are terrible. And I'm not crazy about fancy guitar work in the first place.
The early albums by Lizzy Borden, Loudness, Dokken, W.A.S.P., and even Vinnie Vincent invasion are all quite awesome. I actually prefer groove metal Pantera over glam metal Pantera, but pre-Anselmo Pantera is pretty fucking tits.
The only weird thing about this is that you're agreeing with the majority.
As in keep my opinions to myself?
Not as bad as I remember. Power Metal is still easily the best thing they ever did.
There's a lot of metal fans that completely write off Pantera so I don't know what you're talking about.

The meathead fanboys are the ones that have ruined Darrell Abbott's reputation. He was a gifted player, period, despite the fact that nothing he played was groundbreaking. The same can be said about Jimmy Page or Ritchie Blackmoore. They're all incredible players, despite not being particularly innovative. Unfortunately, most Dimebag fans incite disgust by gushing about him being the greatest guitarist of all time, the world is worse off for losing him, blah blah blah. I hate those idiots to, but if you're going to deny Darrell Abbott's raw talent based on idiots like that, you're letting your personal prejudices dominate and depriving yourself of a pleasurable listening experience.
That's a pretty drawing you made for us Krampus!
