John Tardy is one of the best death metal vocalists

Shame about the sucky riffs though. Cause of Death is the only Obituary album I like, and only because of the badass solo work - everything else is sub-mediocre.

I love Into the Abyss, it's one of my favourite death metal recordings from the 80s.

Also, both Slowly We Rot and Cause of Death are great records. As good as Autopsy at their best? No, but that's hardly relevant.

Count my assertion of Obituary being overrated as a separate controversial opinion if that helps. Tardy has a unique sound, although he overdoes the aaaaaauuuuuugh sound at the end of each line, which can get annoying. I'll second Espada in saying that Frank Mullen is pretty much the master of the death metal vocal form. As much as DM vocals need to be intense, restraint is also key.

Re-listening to it it kind of reminds me of Six Feet Under, which isn't good. I remember also liking that track back in the day though - Xecutioner's Return was actually the first Obituary album I heard.
