It wouldn't be as notable if it weren't a cover, but it's still a lot of fun. It also helps that it was one of the first songs I ever heard from Slayer.

It's not really the production. The vocals are weak and pathetic, Lombardo isn't shit compared to Simon Phillips, the thrashy riffs don't come across as any more intense while the bluesy riffs sound disgusting with their tuning and guitar tone, and Downing is still the master of whammy-bar abuse. They point out one of their most obvious influences but then fail to show them respect or desire to surpass them. Easily as pathetic as any of Metallica's worst covers in the 90s, total embarrassment to the band. I'd rather listen to Scrum on repeat for an hour than that cover ever again. If you like it more than the original, you should kill yourself.

Wow. There's nothing wrong with a band doing a cover song. It's a chance to pay tribute to their influences and share it with their fans. Everyone starts out playing cover songs to learn their instruments anyway.

Lombardo knows like two drumming patterns and only compensates for it with massive, wanky fills (which often tend to resemble each other regardless). Slayer's a funny case for me in that while I often have faves because less liked or vice versa for albums or songs, they're a case where the most impressive instrumentation on first impressions because the least impressive on later (limiting things to 80s Araya of course). I mean, he's certainly not bad, but most of what makes the drums cool on the 86-90 albums is Rubin's production.

I knew that. That's the only metal album I know of that he's been on off hand.
