Cursing and Opeth...

As has been well established, I'm glad that Mikael doesn't curse in his lyrics. It just doesn't fit Opeth.

Nah, his lyrics are poetic rather than "boom boom boom dum de dum "fuck my girlfriend shes a bitch" boom de dum dum boom". Opeth's lyrics rock and their really is no need to swear in them, but hey, if Mike did, that would be okay. Again, I think it would be hard to INCORPORATE a curse into an opeth song, just because the lyrics are poetic

THE SUN SETS FOREVER..... OVER...... BLACKWATER FUCKING PARK!

see what I mean?

+1, except it wouldn't be ok if Mike included cursing. It would completely unravel the poetry of the lyrics.

I'm glad that he doesn't. It really accents his musical maturity to be able to express himself (in a secondary language no less!) more clearly and without "meaningless" words. I would care less if they used the occasional fuck or shit but honestly, Opeth sounds better without it.
:headbang:

I don't have a problem if a band has curse words in their songs. One of my favorite bands has curse words (Katatonia)

Guess Åkerfeldt never felt the need to use profanity

Well I think swearing in songs is FUCKING stupid. Whoever can only express themselves by fucking swearing is a shitty waste of a fucking person.

It obviously would not fit Opeth's lyrics at all. But in Bloodbath or a band like that it doesn't bother me. As long as it's in moderation.

Fuck.

I wouldn't mind an occasional curse but I feel lyricists can express themselves far better with more powerful words or phrases rather than just saying "fuck". People who just constantly swear, in my opinion, come across somewhat unintelligent.

You people saying leave cursing for nu metal are dumb. There are plenty of good metal bands that curse and it fits them. It just wouldn't fit with Opeth -- they are much too sophisticated.

It wouldn't bother me if Opeth had swears in their lyrics. If it fits the song, then why not.

Swearing is mostly for the American Bands. Probably because we can't finish a sentence without fucking swearing !

As I said once in the Swano forum...
using profanity in music is ok but...the more you use a curse word the more "usual" it becomes, it loses most of its meaning and intensity.
When Opeth might in a future album of some sort put one strong and long growl of the word "fuck"...considering the history of Opeth not using profanity, a use of such word would mean it was a necessity and therefore it uses the word's full meaning and intensity.

fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck!!!!

He never curses and I appreciate that alot! I think I would really disapprove
him coursing in his songs. Actually I don't think it fits with growl and curse...
Too much of one side. Just listen to early Katatonia he curses alot, and I
really dont like it.

Here we have another great reason why Opeth is the no. 1! Poetic yet
dark and cool lyrics minus swearing! :)
