....Tea Party, hmm some of their older stuff yeah maybe. (or maybe i just got sick of hearing the same handful of songs being overplayed on the radio)

Luckily we don't have that prob in OZ (don't think I have ever heard The Tea Party on the Radio)

Hmmm...obviously OPETH, Novembre, Anathema, My Dying Bride, Porcupine Tree, Katatonia & Agalloch are IMPRESSIVE bands delivering immense emotional music...all are at the top of my list. Fantastic bands!

But man, right now there is ONE band I seriously cannot stop listening to at the moment that EVERYONE failed to mention...and damn, they deliver some of the most beautifully emotive music I have ever heard! Honestly, these guys REALLY know what they are doing musically...it's quite astonishing, really. Best prog-rock ever! The band is none other than ANGLAGARD. And, either of the two albums are MUSTS to check out...Hybris and Epilog. I can't imagine ANYONE disliking them after a first listen....go now and check them out!

One thing that is great about Anglagard is how they go from lighthearted/happy/almost playful kinda music into sudden seriousness...very dark and even haunting, emotional music that is nothing short of stunning! It's all there and delivered in such pure beauty that I always find myself getting the chills from every listen.

Ah yes, another great band is Anekdoten...quite similar to Anglagard in ways. They're brilliant!

As I said earlier, Fields of the Nephilim is hauntingly dark and depressive, as is the offspring of FotN simply called "Nefilim". Nefilim is way heavier though, much more metal than FotN. However, if you want really depressing stuff, listen to "First and last and Always" by Sisters of Mercy. Some of the songs there are just amazingly dark and sad, yet extremely good.

Haha...It's Desiderii Marginis. And add Sephiroth(thanks to Ethereal Sage for recommending them!:headbang: ) to the list.

@Diospada: The first band that I thought of was Empyrium. Check them out.
and also Saturnus.

Yes. Also add:

Dead Can Dance
Gothica
Lustmord
Parca Pace

Your BEST chances in getting an Anglagard album, I think, would have to be on ebay, unfortunately (where WE just recently won Hybris)...I hear they are out of print and VERY difficult to track down. What they gotta do is have their albums re-issued...the MUSIC is FAR too outstanding to be just, I don't know...withered away.

And Demonspell...yeah, I agree. Anglagard certainly must have been an influence on Mikael...wouldn't be surprised at all.
