Does race matter in metal?

No. There is no justification for saying yes in this matter. Skin color doesn't really matter anywhere, culture, upbringing and environment is what mostly makes us what we are.
The reason why most metalheads are white is a culture, not race, bound thing. It started in a predominantly white culture and hasn't really ever grown out of the bounds of it, black (and other) people haven't been influenced with metal in the same amount as white people. Once rap was black thing, now it's everywhere. Same could happen to metal the other way around.

usually metal is about sadness or disappointment in life or general negative approach ...black people(for example) are much more positive in their approach to life...oriental more ironic...

:)

No races has nothing to say...
I would really like to hear a Metal band with only african people :)
Could be really cool, I mean just listen to that tribal drumming, imagine giving one of those guys doubble bass drums :o

is that why black people have a culture centred around forward thinking happy-go-lucky optimistic gangsta rap?............

Eh, I'm a Hispanic that listens to metal and loves every minute. So I guess that makes me in the minority .1% that listens to metal. Coo! Affirmitive Action baby!

Ahem...

Race never has, nor will it ever have any effect on the quality of music that is being produced.

He said it \m/ most black people grow up listening to hip hop and they don't have the chance to listen to this type of music, but when they do have the chance, they can't understand the music. It's too noisy for them and being a kid that's been listening to hip hop all his life it'll be pretty hard to change overnight and love metal music. A lot of mainstream hip hop serves as background music and black people are accustomed to that, in order to listen to a metal band you have to pay more attention to what's going on in the music.

I dont really see what Tor and the Vikings have to do with racism and nazism...
Just because some lame-ass nazi organizations start talking about being Odin's chosen ones and stuff like that, doesnt mean that all Viking stuff is nazistic!
If you think that the Vikings were racists then your an idiot...
How could they colonize countries like America if they were?
And do trade with Arabians?

I hate nazis and racists, and I hate being mistaken for one just because Im into Norse-Mythology and Viking lore.

and on a side note. livin in california and goin to alot of DM shows. DEMS MEXICANS KICK ASS!!! they are some of the most hardcore supporters of the scene and always go nuts in the pit. i raise my horns to thee! \m/

thank you for writing my thoughts down

Yeah, Hispanics are huge DM fans around here. Well, the ones that go to the shows are hardcore supporters. But I don't think race matters.

Ok, so I gather that cultural differences determine musical preference. Most people who listen to metal are white and people who listen to hiphop are mostly black.

When I mention race, most people just think of white or black. What about, say, Hispanics or Asians? How come they don't have a unique style of music that defines their culture, like the black people do?
