mine = Cannibal Corpse, Six Feet Under, Dying Fetus, Exhumed, Myopia (from my home town of Vancouver), Cryptopsy (fellow Canadiens)

If not, In Flames. If they don't count, then Fear Factory(SoaNM era).

I think the Flaming Lips are a fairly decent Death Metal band.

Opeth overall, but for more traditional "death metal" my favourites are

Morbid Angel and Death.

Vader, Nile, Opeth, Amon Amarth, Dismember, Immolation.

Some lovely mainstream death metal

Opeth is put into a "melodic"death metal catagory, so they're still death metal, so is In Flames(to answer ones question)

mine is probably Opeth, Cannibal Corpse, Arch Enemy, Nile, and if Napalm Death counts(their grindcore, so it's close enough ), they're included also

Myself: I'd have to go with Morbid Angel as my outright favourite, but seeing as everyone has listed multiple bands, i will also.
