I like how Testament came along with Skolnick on his clean tone Ibanez and Peterson on his black '59 Gibson Les Paul !!!! I mean, who plays thrash metal terror on a Les Paul? Eric Peterson, that's who!

certain Testament songs and discs come across as kind of pretentious drivel to me ... Souls of Black and some other come to mind

:loco:

That's because Souls of Black sucks ass.

This is their Reign in Blood:

Hell Awaits is actually one of my least favorite Slayer albums. But like you say, it's good to see this isn't a one horse race.

ya know, Diabolus aint no modern classic, but it is severely underrated and incorrectly accused of nu-metalism. if you listen carefully and objectively, the influences that are confused for numetal are actually hardcore and (subtle) industrial. there is no funk, there is no jumpdafuckup, no one is wearing a mask or rapping. yeah it's a bit slower and heavier and groovier. is that such a bad thing?!

relistened to Hell Awaits and Reign in Blood today. This is utter brilliant mediocrity. Tom Araya's vocals suck. Megadeth stomps Slayer.
