Well I prefer having a consistent soundscape rather than an album consisting of a few good songs and a bunch of filler.

If you think regular rock is nothing but 'a few good songs and a bunch of filler', you seriously need to listen to more classic rock albums. I could name you a good 50 or more albums that are at least 90% excellent material, without the need for falling back on a 'consistent soundscape'.

Power Metal! Kamelot converted me, although my collection is minimal at the moment. A few days ago i would have said death or black, but I just did the operatic vocals and stuff. I'm getting so into it that I sing along. Good thing I am alone. Of course I love prog metal too, but there is value in keeping it simple. I have to be in the mood for prog metal, I guess. I always love prog metal a la tool/king crimson though. I'll probably change my mind next week, you know. It's just how i roll.

By all means, list 100 albums that go beyond the shallow, predictable jew entertainment that is KISS, ACDC, Rolling Stones, etc.

Sex, drugs, and rock n roll man. :headbang:

I think that thrash by itself is boring but I really enjoy bands that death and/or black metal with thrash, speeding up those two genres and making the vocals marginally cleaner makes a world of difference.

When it comes down to it, (oldschool) death metal is my favorite genre but I often go through random phases of black metal, grindcore, doom metal, and even hardcore punk.

My favourite genre overall in metal is with out a doubt black metal. However, above all, gothic music as a whole is the ideal style of music for me and my personal preference. There are few gothic metal acts that I truly enjoy with *early Theatres des Vampires being my favourite band. But I strongly dislike female-fronted "gothic" metal bands...

Of the twelve listed genres...

Top 5:
1. Gothic music/metal
2. Black metal
3. Industrial metal
4. Doom metal
5. Death metal

“Meh”

Thrash metal
Viking metal
Progressive metal

Dislike these ones:
Deathcore
Metalcore
Nu-metal
Power metal

I agree the following bands have great talent and have released quality albums:

Alice Cooper
Cream
The Doobie Brothers
The Doors
Fleetwood Mac
Jethro Tull
Journey
Zeppelin
King Crimson
Pink Floyd
Queen
Rainbow
Steely Dan
The Who

(Waves off the rest along with countless others overplayed on the radio)

@LTP: Grindcore is punk with metal elements.

You should listen to some of the other bands I mentioned, if you like those ones. Many of them you'd never hear on the radio at all (i.e. Camel, Hawkwind, Magma, Ten Years After, etc).
