Forum suggestions

My vote is to keep the sections simple and broad in scope.

  • Recording (everything to do with the process of getting sound to "tape," all instruments, etc.)
  • Mixing/Mastering (everything to do with the post-recording phase, including editing)
  • Gear (for general discussion of amps, plug-ins, hardware, etc.)
  • Off Topic (for nitronium blood and his disciples)

4 is a better number than 5, less daunting, I don't want to have to think too long about which section to post in. I think this covers everything. This list assumes that a) Questions will be asked and answered in all sections, b) clips will be posted in the top 3 sections in particular on a regular basis and c) there is bound to be some overlap in terms of the topics covered under each section, but that this will organize things dramatically better overall.

I'm a strong proponent for the song and clip critique idea. so here's my list, similar to the ones before:

1) song/clip critique forum (how's how 5150 sound?)
2) gear. (any question or rant about gear, be it instrument or recording equipment)
3) recording/mixing/mastering (self-explanatory)
4) Nitronium's Blood Cafe (talk about new music, pornography; if there's anything else us metalheads are interested in it could go here...although I can't think of what that would be)

and maybe a newb corner. although some questions would be difficult for the poster to determine the destination of...does it belong in newb corner or recordin/mixing/mastering? that could be tough...

or split "gear" into "guitar" and "other".

#5 could also be the "what did so-and-so use on this recording? what triaxis patch do I need to use to get close to not get close to really nail not sound anything like the new defleshed album etc...
