I was pondering today, how pathetic the melodic death scene has become. I cant name a decent record since Dark Tranquilty's Damage Done. Upon further thought, I came to the conclusion I rarely ever listen to melodic death. If i do listen to it, it is dark tranquility or At the Gates.

So, does anyone agree with me on the state of melodic death, and what other genres have grown stale in your opinion?

Yes, Arsis is really the only original melodic death band in quite some time.

There aren't many bands in any style of metal that are doing much new or innovative anymore...but there are still many quality bands nonetheless.

I agree about melodeath. I would probably also add thrash. The veteran thrash bands are still making good thrash (especially Sodom and Destruction), but most of the new "thrash" bands are quite a bore.

The American scene is what we need. Enough of these second-tier Swedish thrash bands. Nothing but Slayer/Haunted ripoffs with death/black vocals and the odd Gothenburg riff.

Melodic death needs to be saved, I agree.

Yea as much as I adore melo-death, it has generally become fairly stagnant.

Bands like Arsis, Skyfire, Symbyosis and Mors Principium Est give me hope for the future of the genre.

On a different note Lykathe has released new stuff? Why wasnt i informed! Or are you referring to Elvenefris?

In Flames is definitely not helping Melodic Death like how it first seemed to make it most popular. I would agree, Dark Tranquillity's Damage Done is one of the few latest good melodic death albums.

I think Thrash has a ways to go still, soo many american bands are showing up that show promise, I like Darkest Hour and Between the Buried and Me a lot. Thrash/Hardcore, however genre you say they are in.

yes I lost interest in melodicdeath some time ago... but about those newer thrash bands being boring I cant agree... there are some great thrash bands in the underground who still keep it alive.... just listen to those mp3s on this site: http://www.metalprovider.com/ugthrashingmayhem/audio.htm

toxic holocaust, soulless (usa), chemikiller, flesh made sin and nocturnal being my faves...

also I really recommend the HYPNOSIA - EXTREME HATRED and DEKAPITATOR - WE WILL DESTROY... YOU WILL OBEY albums which are like a thrash revival! Definetly the best 80s thrash albums to not come from the 80s!

thrash is alive... but it doesnt sell like Death metal and grindcore does in these days...

i love melodic death..i dont know how you all can become tired of it..haha

i will say that for me..there are no genres that have grown stale..if its heavy metal..and its good..i'll listen to it :)

I like a lot of the Melodic Death stuff...especially In Flames. I'm probably a pariah because of that, but I don't care...I don't choose what moves me, it just does. If that's not popular, so fucking be it...
