I laugh as I die!

"The bass solos are still silly, but at least Black Arrows is his best bass solo. Otherwise, I see no flaw in Hail to England. Bridge of Death is how you do an epic correctly, actually building up and progressing, not a glorified up-beat Iron Maiden reject with fruity keyboard-driven bullshit overlaid like Veni, Vidi, Vici." - @HamburgerBoy

"Go listen to a Lord of the Rings audiobook or some shit if that's what you're into. I'll take Hail to England." - @HamburgerBoy

if it wasn't for redinthesky's last minute entry manowar would've missed out on the list by a point. on behalf of the entire board i'd like to thank him for letting us hold on to our balls.

edit: wait i just worked out that actually it would've still got 10th by half a point nm

I would say Hail to England is the best Manowar album that I've heard so far. The most consistent and most memorable out of the first four. I checked out The Triumph of Steel based on what CIG was saying about it and that's pretty solid but I need to spin it some more to figure out if that's the second best Manowar album or not. I've listened to that one once and listened to the first 4 several times through.

Overrated I don't agree with as I feel they're mocked about as much as they're praised, but I agree that they're pretty fucking inconsistent.

That's a fair point. They do seem to polarize people. I dislike their fans and their perpetual "you're not a real man if you don't jack off to the cover of Into the Glory Ride at least three times a week" nonesense much more than I feel disdain for their music. The vocalist is obviously very gifted and the musicians are skilled. The stuff I've heard is mostly good but not great with a few legit classics peppered in. I do think the more rock they are the less metal they are, the more they descend toward mediocity.

Their imagery and album covers are fucking' cringeworthy and i have to question anyone that considers that shit "metal". More like pretentious goofball posers to me. Nothing metal about dressing up in leather thongs and posing for pictures. And to top it off the band members are top notch douches who think way too highly off themselves. I can proudly say i am not a fan of them.

And like i said, average at best. There is nothing they do that countless other bands dont do better ... except play dress up.

Manowar did black/Viking metal better than second-rate copycat talentless hacks like Quorthon and the Immortal guys ever did.
