Had to check out several albums until I found another two to make it at least a top 5, thus as far as quantity is concerned, 2002 isn't much different from (nearly) any other year of the last two decades for me. But quality-wise, this is my favourite year, because both my now overall most-played album and my fourth overall most-played album were released in 2002.

1. Atrox - Terrestrials
2. Madder Mortem - Deadlands
(insert huge gap here)
3. Nightwish - Century Child
4. Reverend Bizarre - In the Rectory of the Bizarre Reverend
5. Krux - Krux

It won't count. Feel free to keep it in your list, but when I tally the results it won't be included. It's blatantly a non-metal neofolk album.

1) Immolation - Unholy Cult
2) Vader - Revelations
3) Cannibal Corpse - Gore Obsessed
4) Behemoth - Zos Kia Cultus
5) Nile - In Their Darkened Shrines
6) Meshuggah - Nothing
7) Amon Amarth - Versus the World
8) Blind Guardian - A Night at the Opera
9) Doomsword - Resound the Horn
10) Mastodon - Remission

Was checking my RYM wishlist for 2002 and Apotheosis' Farthest from the Sun was on it for some reason. While it's definitely not making my top 10 for the year, I'd take it over most/all other symphoblack I can think of that I've heard. The pseudo-classical synth wank was actually pretty good, even.

1. The Chasm - Conjuration of the Spectral Empire
2. Stutthof - Towards Thy Astral Path
3. Arghoslent - Incorrigible Bigotry
4. Destroyer 666 - Cold Steel... for an Iron Age
5. Belenos - Spicilege
6. Agatus - The Weaving Fates
7. Primordial - Storm Before the Calm
8. Wolfnacht - Heidentum
9. Peste Noire - Macabre Transcendence
10. Immolation - Unholy Cult

Honourable Mentions:

Dub Buk - Iду на Ви!
Ungod/Baxaxaxa - Magicus Tallis Damnatio/Hellfire
Manilla Road - Spiral Castle
Reverend Bizarre - In the Rectory of the Bizarre Reverend
Desaster- Divine Blasphemies
Inquisition - Invoking the Majestic Throne of Satan
Bilskirnir - In Flames of Purification
Deathspell Omega - Inquisitors of Satan
Astrofaes - Ancestors’ Shadows

Not convinced on the order. But I’m away on a school trip all next week and so I wanted to get this done before then.

I originally thought this year wasn’t that great, but actually it’s pretty good.

Anyone got any death metal recommendations for this year?
