DP in Rock is also heavy metal, plus they have a bunch of metal tracks scattered throughout their later albums. Lovedrive and Love at First Sting from Scorpions are also metal.

edit: I have no problem with zeppelin not being on here, as none of their albums would be classified as metal.

Also..

Deep Purple inspired the youngsters that would later on become the NWOBHM, speed metal etc.

While zeppelin inspired this...

You're in deep denial if you don't think just about every NWOBHM act was influenced by Led Zeppelin. I get that you're not the biggest Zeppelin fan, but let's not make revisionist history.

Actually, there are more than few bands from the NWOBHM that went out of their way to say that they weren't influenced by zeppelin. Now i have to go looking for another documentary.

Just saying that DP had a much larger influence on HM while Zepp also influenced countless numbers of garbage US hard rock bands ... and that's mainly due to the fact that they were fucking huge out here, more so than DP and even Sabbath.

Anyway, plant and page are the two biggest faggots in the world ... with their "we don't even want to be linked to heavy metal" attitudes. Fuck them.

I tend to prefer Stoner Doom, aside from Trouble which is basically traditional heavy metal. Would have included a lot more Sabbath if not for the restriction: Vol 4, Black Sabbath, Master of Reality, Heaven and Hell, 13.

You can even include that one Heaven & Hell album.

Done!

Most "boring" list ever but whatever. I like this music.

Why do you always use the long dash instead of the straight hyphen and screw up my merge into Excel? Please stop.

Also, I'll allow Deep Purple since HBB included Scorpions. Fuck it.

If you change your votes because of this, please follow up via PM or in this thread.

When Battle Cry is awesome it's really fucking awesome, but I have a tendency to skip several tracks while listening to it. Something I rarely, if ever, do with the tracks I listed above it.

@Ozzman I make the lists in Word because I like to change the order around a bit. I'll change it next time.

describe these plz

Secrecy's Art in Motion is kinda more progressive metal, but every time I recommend them on other forums I get comments like "More traditional than I expected", so I'm counting them. Very melodic stuff (three guitarists) with great hooks. Maybe the biggest appeal for me (that could be a turn-off for others) is that they have a completely unique, kind of introspective theme that really works with the feminine vocals. Basically trad/prog twee metal.

Othyrworld's is basically a re-recording of the Sacred Blade album. If you don't know it, it's basically like 70s Priest with a little more psych/prog influence (Captain Beyond being one of the more notable influences). Just great songwriting with a nice relaxed vibe. If you do know the Sacred Blade, there are a few new (from the later 80s/early 90s) songs on the Othyrworld as well.

Zions Abyss' is pretty much straight-up USPM stuff, but from a Canadian band. I wrote a review for it on RYM, but briefly summed up it's slightly flashy stuff in the Vicious Rumors vein, but just of a much much higher quality/consistency. When I was first going through my download-every-obscure-trad-album-ever phase, there was a lot of stuff that got only one or two listens and then sat around for a long time. The thing with the Zions Abyss album is that when I dusted that one off, many of the hooks had stayed with me as if it were a Priest or Dio album engrained in my head from childhood by my father.

Taramis' is in the Arch-era Fates Warning style, progressive trad/power. The production is rough and the singer gets a bit of flak (I see him described as an out-of-tune Messiah), but the songs are very non-repetitious for the style and it's very atmospheric to me. Maybe a more serious Slauter Xstroyes would also work. Also, the drumming on the album might be my very favorite trad metal performance, very swing-y/groovy in a way rare for 80s metal, kinda like Clive Burr going more prog.

Ugh... So much work.

I'll say I approve of pretty much everyone's list though. If you're still doing this when I finally get my puter built I'll contribute.

After a full 2 spins I see what you mean. It's really good, but some of the songs are a bit on the generic/bland side. Not terribly bland, just not consistent throughout.

EDIT: Its still a great find. I'm glad I listened to it. It will be played again soon for sure

Be My Wench and Prince of Darkness are the only relative weak points imo, both kinda typical speed metal (but still badass). On a whole I think it's really consistent. The reason it doesn't make it to me top 25 is just because there's still no 10/10 perfect highlight on the album, but it's one great USPM song after the next.
