Gojira - The Way....

Yes, I always imagine a 2 kilometer tall mechanical abomination taking huge steps and crushing fucking cities into pieces when I hear the intro on Toxic Garbage Island.

It's insane, nothing comes close to it. Veil of Maya's "Pillars" is a pretty good song too though, when it comes to pure planet-heavyness. But still, Gojira beats the crap out of them :)

Gojira isn't really a band you can enjoy straight out the glass (analogy coming up).
Listening to it for the first time is like drinking your first beer...It tastes horrible at first, but the more you drink it sometimes to look cool, the more you enjoy it. In my case, I wanted to like it (because they're great musicians) so I put my self through a couple of unwanted listens. I have no regrets though :P

The Art of Dying is probably THE most epic song of theirs...It's actually too big.

Been digging this album very much lately as well.

It's groovy, it's tight, it's technically simple, and it sounds awesome.

Pretty much some of the best things I could draw from Death, Meshuggah, Cynic and Opeth all rolled into one.

This is just what I hear, your mileage may vary.

Yeah they rock. I saw them live in I think it was 2006. They played everything extremely tight and the live sound was great. They didn't really put up much of a show though, DevilDriver could work the crowd much better and just showed more energy that evening.

I listened to their previous album many times over, and I had the same impression - everything I like is done better by Textures anyway. The analogy is a little unsuitable, since my first beer was actually Guinness, and I quite liked it. I think a closer analogy is Jack Daniels - it's not bad, but there's really not as much behind the surface as there is with a good scotch.

I do believe Jack Daniels sells a large number of their used whiskey barrels to the folks in Scotland to rack their whiskey. Every sip of Scotch you ever had, probably had a bit of JD in it! :kickass:

.....For the record...I love Scotch & Jack Daniels both.

Ugghh, HAET scotch (and have only heard a little Gojira, which I was...eh about, but I'll give it a few more chances to grow on me)

I have absolutely no problem with JD, but when I want something complex and interesting I go for some whisk(e)y from across the pond.

I think this song would be a freaking intense for part of a soundtrack for a movie. I could only imagine what happens in their pits.

haha im scottish and i hate scotch! But then again i grew up in Maryland so im pretty much a beer and jager drinker :D

Oh btw This record is probably the most important metal album in years, i used to think Meshuggah were the heaviest band evurrrr but then after seeing Gojira live i was blown away. Gojira deffinatly hold the crown for best live sound i've ever heard. I shall decree this album is the tits :D

yes - this is one of the best sounding metal albums 2008 / 2009

and i saw them live yesterday!!! :OMG:

this band knows what makes you bang your head. although
sometimes the rhythms are a little too standard... almost
new metal-ish at times...

their snaredrum sounds like crap - live.
not on their recordings tho...
maybe they should use drumagog live with the snare sample from the album...

I get what you mean with the standard sounding rythms sometimes but that doesn't bother me that much...

I saw them 2 times and the snare sounded great each time.

The first time I ever heard Gojira, it was when they were opening for Lamb of God.. had never listened to them before and I showed up right as they launched into Heaviest Matter of the Universe. I was more or less instantly a fan  They are technical as well.. not flashy like people think you need to be, but Oroborus' main riff is all tapping, Toxic Garbage Island is just fast, Esoteric Surgery has the same picking & drumming pattern as Meshuggah's Bleed, older tunes like In the Forest are in really odd time signatures and are fast as hell..

@ Temps: Perhaps, some people enjoy beer on the first sip. lol

As for "The Way of All Flesh", I think it sounds great. But a little too polished? I always enjoyed Gojira for their 'Roomy-live-ish' sound like on "From Mars To Sirius" because I thought it suited the music and vibe more. You can hear that they tried to get that same vibe out on this one but it's very subtle.

I mentioned this in previous "New Gojira" threads on here, but I not too big on Mader's Robo-tight productions like Divine Heresy's album. Gojira's tight enough without him.
