Gojira - The Way....

His interesting drumming is thanks to his love in music, all kinds of music. He plays pretty much anything, and incorporates it into metal. Latin, Jazz, Pop, Rock, you name it.

That´s the way it should be! Awesome!! Just walked with my dog, while listening to this album..I want this fucking Zildjan Ride!!! I hear its sound even in my dreams!! *zongzongzongzong* Aaaaaargg

I agree Felix :D

Gojira is a very "exotic" type of metal. The sounds... they are simply more than just a good production. Especially on their early albums, they've got some nice indian stuff going on, wood block percussions, lots and lots of percussions.

Oh and I'm an absolute sucker for that ... I don't know what it is but it sounds like an oil barrel or something. They use it on the early stuff, not sure if I've heard it in FMTS or TWoaF. I just love that sound... gimme samples of oil barrels or whatever that is! :D

I agree if it's done right and in context of the music... sometimes you just hear random latin percussion thrown in there and it just sounds out of place, and you wonder if they were just doing it for the hell of it.

Thankfully from what I've heard so far, Gojira knows what they're doing. :kickass:

Met and hung out with the guys tonight, won a meet and greet for the hollywood show.

According to Joe, TWOAF was the JB loaded SLS/RR1 combo into an EVH 5150III, Peavey 5150 cabinet, and AKG C414.

Seriously! And with a C414!!

Their live tone was fucking ridiculous, though. 5150III halfstacks and no mics, so I dunno howtf they got it to FoH. I was right up front so I didn't hear much FoH mix, and the tone from the cabs themselves was monstrous. I want a 5150III so badly now! Not to mention the white halfstack looks like pure sex!!!

saw these guys tonight!

great sound. everything was awesome!

but seriously...

wtf is up with them not playing songs off the link?

do they just not like that album?

it deserves just as much play as the rest of their stuff.

I just listened to The Way of All Flesh for the first time now and I agree with Jeff, I just don't get it.

It great production wise, and the beginning after the intro of "The art of dying" sounds fucking big and intro of "Vacuity" sounded awesome, but otherwise I just don't get any feelings from it. Yes, they do sound different than 99% of the bands, but where is the greatness in it that you all are so pumped up for? I have the similiar thing with Mastodon. I bought the Remission album because everyone hyped it and have heard the other albums after that, but I just can't dig it for some reason. Ain't my cup of tea apparently.

PS: Is Randy Blythe doing vocals in "All The Tears" or is it just me?

(edit: but why is everyone hyped about the guitartone? I don't think its that special. But the bass.... Oh my god its huge!)

Those records are some kind of growers IMO.
But still i guess it's a love it or hate it thing also.

Just saw them live too. The 5150IIIs looked good, the sound was awesome as always, the show was very tight. The opening band, Car Bomb, was extraordinarily sick.

Listened to a few tracks via imeem - it's pretty cool, though the focus on atonality and weirdness (the seem to be anti-melody) makes it pretty tiring for me to listen to. Great grooves though!

And to be clear, I consider Decapitated to have more melody than these guys (except maybe for Organic Hallucinosis), so it's not like I was expecting Iron Maiden!
