Gojira - The Way....

this band knows what makes you bang your head. although
sometimes the rhythms are a little too standard... almost
new metal-ish at times...

And this is bad why? I'm so sick of "everything has to be special and unique in metal, nothing must sound like any mainstream stuff", but the truth is, most of it does.

Bring on the "standard" rhythms in music like Gojira, I say :)

I agree with most of you guys. Their music may be a bit 'simple' at times, but I really think that's a technical feat all by itself.

Writing something very simple that still has groove and sucks you in, in my opinion, is way more difficult than getting all weedly deedly meedly at 400bpm with sweeps through 95% of your songs....has more staying power in my CD player too.

haha Gojira have nu metal rhythms? haha are we listening to the same band?? :S

Im gonna play devils advocate abit here dcb , if you think Gojira arnt techy what kinda stuff you listening to that is?

Exactly right dude.

I don't personally think of the bits and pieces in question as being "nu-metal", but I can see where some people are coming from (people seem to like to put labels on things!), but yeah, I think it's massively impressive for a band to be able to write "simple" songs that still rule.
A lot of the "simple" Gojira riffs are still kinda hard to play because of the timing in the rhythms anyways!

gojira might not have fast guitar parts racing around everywhere all the time but it really isn't simple. Harmonically and rythmically very interesting, especially with the amazing drumming

I still can't believe how pumped I get when I hear the words "Plastic Bag in the Sea"

I dunno what it is about them. I don't really like any similar bands but DAMN.

This shit is great.

Gojira_, recommend me another good album by them!

Well, if you ask me, every album they've made so far is good... or great actually :) I LOVE the old school feel of the first album "Terra Incognita", it's so raw but it's sooooooo sooooo Gojira man... :) After that, they started discovering their way to the sound of the newer stuff, on the album "The Link". It's fucking great, you can hear that they were on their way to "From Mars to Sirius" on that album. And as I said... "From Mars to Sirius" marked a new era in Gojira, mainly because they toned down the "extreme techy" stuff in order to play "less is more" type of stuff, and I am really glad they did that.

So, that's all of the albums they've made so far (well, exluding "The Way of all Flesh", and I'm extremely biased so I just love all of 'em. Don't ask me to recommend ONE album, because I recommend them all!

And then there is the REEEEEEEAAALLY old school stuff... namely, their first demo, which I happen to own :) Limited edition! Even on that demo, when they were young and all, they rape most local bands... atleast in this town.

Guess I'll grab from "mars to Sirius" and slowly work my way back.

TBH I'm a sucker for good production values...

Not saying they HAVE to be good for the music to be good but if I had the choice...:goggly:

As a HUGE Gojira fan [finally I'll get to see them live! They 're coming to Greece this summer with Heaven & Hell!] I say DEFINITELY listen to FMTS. The sound is more unpolished, but at the same time clear and organic. Oh and HEAVY AS FUCK. (you 'll be screaming about flying whales in no time ;) :p)

Remembrance from The Link is also undeniably awesome with that psychotic machine gun riffing at the end!

Gojira's live concert DVD also rules. Very tight show, all stuff from the Link and earlier. Its also cool to see that there is no security at French shows, but the fans that do jump up on stage just headbang, stay out of the way, and jump back into the crowd.

totally agree with you !

i think gojira do a fantastic job combining stuff that you can relate to and feel with your heart, other parts catch your attention and you go : great idea.

i guess that is what makes this band so great.

still some riffs are a little to clichee for my taste, esp. their first cd...
but nevertheless:
absolutely awesome band !!! :notworthy that knows what a great song needs!

Yea he definately uses Zildjian, and I recall there is something about the bell on his ride... it's one of those more "extreme" models, that's for sure :)

I usually don't pay great attention to "standard" cymbal brands, like Zildjian, Sabian, etc but I've gotta admit, Mario's cymbals sound fat and big, but still clear!
