Ok... there hasn't been all that much action around here lately, so:

What do you think the new Katatonia album will be like? Of course at this stage we can only speculate, but which direction do you think they'll take?

More electronic, heavy, experimental, alternative??

All I know is that when I hear it for the first time, I bet I'll be really shocked and that it'll take a few listens to get used to (if their past history is anything to go by :p )

There won't be any BIG difference to LFDGD, I'd suppose. Perhaps some acoustic guitars, female voices or a bit more keys...and more of this "soft verse, hard chorus" stuff ..dunno really..

i think i'd be pretty surprised to hear female vox or anything like that... i'm mostly expecting something along the same lines as lfdgd, maybe a bit heavier or lighter, or with a few new things (more electronics i could see) thrown in... i wouldn't expect any massive departures, though... ya never know though, they could just surprise us all :)

Thats what I think also..:)

I think that it will be a hard work to make a better album than LFDGD.
I expect something harder, with less electronics compared to their latest album and perhaps with some acustic parts ( like the intro of Sulfur for example).
No female vox, that´s very unlikely..and I don´t like female vox...
As for the lyrics I don´t know, I suppose something similar to LFDGD, I don´t really know actually. I must be patient and wait.

and I don´t like female vox...

Quite remarkable to hear that from a female :)
Any particular reasons for this?

By the way, I'm sure the next album will be a true metal onslaught with leather and spikes and all that kind of stuff

I just thought about female vox mainly used for short passages or background vox, like Sentenced or Charon did before...I didn't imply a massive use of it like f.ex. Lacuna Coil do... :)

But who knows....

I could not imagine female vox in the music of Katatonia.
I'm not saying that i'm generally against female vocals but i don't know,i think it could sound too dramatically if it was not used in the right moment of the song. Of course it depends on the song itself, could be too that there's a song to which it would fit perfectly.
Furthermore i hope that they won't use more electronics than on LFDGD,or rather none at all, that's my opinion. If i'm honest,i still got problems today with the electronic parts on LFDGD,don't be mad at me.

Speaking of how the new album might sound, i have to say that i have not yet thought about it really. I think it will continue the path they laid with LFDGD, but maybe something could be different, i remember reading in the board a while ago that it is going to be a bit harder, don't know who wrote this.
Iceheart talked about acoustic guitars, yes, that would be very very nice to have a track like sulfur on the next album, which i think is brilliant btw. I mean i really love "this punishment" and "a darkness coming", so more of this;)
I know that i want the record to become as depressing as possible, i am thinking of a "new" or rather "another" kind of depression. What i mean is,that when i'm listening to Discouraged ones there is a different feeling then when listening to Tonight's decision. Every Katatonia CD gives me a different feeling. Basically the main feeling is the same, but it appears in another form with each CD,if you understand, quite confusing i know:D
So,a feeling i've never known before when listening to a Katatonia CD,something that reminds me why i love this band the way i do.
Like elric mentioned, i guess they'll surprise us.
I'm eager for it;)

TRAITOR!!! :yell:

;)
Anyway, I know what you mean, I'm still skipping We Must Bury You, so here's another 'vote' for a... let's say more conventional approach.

I'm a girl, that's why I prefer male vox:lol:
Actually, a part from Tori Amos and Maria Callas, I've never had favourite female singers.
As for metal, band such as Lacuna Coil and Theatre of tragedy are still ok, but I don't think that female vox fits with metal or hard music.
I agree with phyre, "Katatonia is not female-vocals-music. Female vocals makes music sound romantic".
And then Jonas has a kind of sweet and not too low or agressive voice, it wouldn't fit with a female voice...too sweet and mellow...
