Guitar Player's Thread

God I hate Yngwie bashing. Just because he has become somewhat repetitive and boring to listen to doesn't mean everything he did sucked. I for one really like Rising Force, the stuff he did with Alcatrazz and the album Odyssey and class it as some of my favorite music. I See The Light Tonight is another classic. I don't care for much of his music, but that doesn't mean there's no good stuff in between.

One of the reasons I believe he repeats himself so much is that he said he doesn't really listen to anything but his own music and the same classical music he did when starting out.

^thank you! Alcatrazz had some great stuff, like Too Young To Die, Too Drunk to Live. and even tho I haven't listened to Rising Force in a while, I remember how much inspiration it used to give me. Many of the songs have those acoustic interludes in them which make them even more appreciated. Definitely my favorite Yngwie album as well.
And big deal if not ALL of Yngwie's songs are good compositions (no one's perfect, except maybe Vivaldi :p) but there are definitely those which have proved what he's capable of "cough* Black Star *cough*. And just cuz he's classically influenced does not mean that he is not original. The neo-classical touch is what makes him distinct from other virtuoso players, and obviously, it's what he's known for.

:kickass: Btw, when may we expect your songs man? Do I remember right if I remember an early July release or something? I've listened to Run or Fuck or however is it actually called like a thousand times, and I even have on my mp3 player the samples you post, I want moar!:lol:

@Arvoitus: Damn that sounds fucking awesome indeed!

Being a liar, a perfectionist, a lazy fuck, and shooting for the stars makes the album ready in like another month.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

why is everyone getting in to the axe-fx suddenly?
i know someone who just ordered one. sold all his tube gear to go digital because of that thing. its good but i fuckin hate digital and its expensive as tits
because it is one hell of an awesome tool. it is simply THE best modeling unit out there.
this thing is on my wish list for a while since i am such a poor bastard i was even thinking selling a kidney to found one...

neee i wasn't.

seriously though i fucking want! it is simply a whole studio.
everything i need and don't need packed in one unit with more options and tweaking possibilities then i ever could imagine or figure out what to do with it.

Expensive is hardly the word for modelling like that, having the whole studio in one unit certainly makes 1500$ cheap as fuck

making a real studio can easilly quadrupple that figure, now, what was expensive as tits again?

Myself im not really for modelling though, even though i use Revalver MKIII a lot nowadays

I have Revakver MKIII too and quite honestly I don't find it special. It can get half decent tones but most of them are just not tight or ballsy enough. They easily get wobbly and shit. Also, didn't like the interface too much. I daresay I still prefer Pod Farm. Works great, doesn't take alot of resources from computer and is dang versatile.

Also, have no idea why the copy of Revalver i had(yes it was cracked)was noisy as fuck. I had the noise gate on and all but it was over 9000 times noisier than POD Farm with the noisegate on.

Ofcourse, I am biased...It worked shit for me but generally I just didn't like it. For me it's definetly real amp or UX-1+POD Farm

Well, I think ReValver is great!

I think I've made a good choice with my tone on HCDR, LDB and KTS (if you want to have a similar tone as the older COB albums).

being drunk has led me to come up with the greatest Idea I havea ever had.

I want to start a deathmetal Mariachi band.

:lol::lol::lol:

How would that work?

Rofl, the funny thing is I'm busting my ass doing it now. I went on this 2 week vacation that just threw everything off course.

But shit, I assure you it will be some cool stuff.

Im probably going to buy a UX-1/2 when im moving in my new appartment.
So i haven't tried Podfarm but this is how my Revalver sounds with my guitar STRAIGHT into my pc (no interface or something):

I tried Revalver with my UX1 and it got liek half a second of delay. Maybe I should tyr installing that ASIO4ALL sor some crap I've heard about.

Ontopic: I miss my Jackson like fuck. 10th of June I said goodbye... now I have to wait to 5th of august to see it again <3

Call me a negative nelly, but I don't find it all that great. If I were to hear these two clips without telling what they are, I would have known it was a processed amp modeler. Actually, it sounds like a line6 plugged into an amp's input  Can't beat a tube amp.

Those cleans sound fantastic with the effects though.
I can also get awesome digital recording tone from a few free LEGAL plug-ins that some random dude designed and released for free haha
But If you are talking like a physical piece of hardware, I agree the Axe FX is probably the most advanced in amp modeling as you can get, but I'd rather have a real amp.
Personally i'm a gear whore, and i will be using tube amps(except for cleans, Roland JC120<3333333333)
etc when i get around to having enough money lol

Ofcourse, nothing can beat a tube amp. People shouldn't compare a Axefx with a real tube amp.
The Axefx is a amp modeler. And a fucking good one, it beats the crap out of every random Line-6 product.

Another clip: http://www2.hku.nl/~tymon/axe/PolyAxe.mp3

Use the Axefx live and hook up a XLR cable = Ready to use 1,000,000 different combinations. You can't do that with a real tube amp for $1,500!!!

In a live situation, 999 out of the 1000 people can't hear the difference between a plugged in Axefx or a 3000 dollar amp miced up with a single SM57.

Well, to be straight into PC that sure is good but that's by no means a tone I would accept in any of my songs. I usually do anything with as little gain as possible and try to get the clearest and tightest sound possible.

The thing with Revalver as opposed to Line6 products is that Revalver is purely software, so you need a high end studio card(and a preamp infront of it since its pretty rare to find a studio soundcard with inbuilt preamp. probably noise issues). Line6 units already have this inbuilt in the box.

With my soundcard i get around 3ms delay on Revalver, and there's no noise or gritting to speak of.

Now there should also be mentioned that, to really use the full potential of Revalver, you must really start fucking around with the tubes, power supplies, etc. That's where the magic comes from

Yes, exactly why I keep to Toneport stuff. If I were to upgrade to stuff like that I could just aswell get a mic to mic up my tube amp.

One of those ISO boxes by Randall would be fucking sweet! You could crank your amp as fuck and put a mic in there

I agree with what you are both saying. He did have some good songs, and the man is top of the league with shredders. Problem being, and with MANY more shredders out there, his song writing and soloing is basically taken right from the basic harmony book he probably studied 6hours a day. There is so little originality in his music. If he's a real musician he'd find a way to keep his style fresh, and he'd not just have 3 great songs per album and fill the rest in with mindless wank (and consider himself a musical genius for doing so). Pretty much anyone who uses "filler songs", especially willingly, are pretty terrible.

Great guitar player, but a boring and unimaginative composer imo.
But yeah, I'll leave it at that since this thread is actually usefull so I don't like shitting all over it :p
