If you recognise your own work, please keep it to yourself. Usernames will be made public in the end. Please place your vote, and post in the thread with your reasoning!

As stated in previous threads by many users, I am not impressed by any of these tones. Anyway, I was between O and EV and voted for EV, it just sounded tighter and filled the almost missing bass in the backing tracks

I'm curious as to whether the vote distribution will change compared to the first run of this. If anything it's a cool experiment on a statistical basis...

I'm PMing everyone who posted in the previous thread to make sure they see this one. I hope any change due to my mistake will be insignificant.

*edit*

Old thread just got deleted so I can't see who posted there anymore. Should be alright though, I'll keep this on page 1 and it'll be around for a week

It happens man, it's just a friendly competition anyway. It doesn't really matter who wins in the end, as long as we've over-analyzed every last nuance and argued to death about it (and at some stage maybe learned something)! :)

These competitions would probably have different outcomes if posted across different weeks, varying with which current albums are 'in fashion' or which demographic is frequenting the place most.

Although its true the main reason is for educational purposes, there is also a prize for the winner. I'd feel pretty damn bad if someone won (or didn't win) due to a mistake of mine.

EV all the way. It's fat, aggressive and works good on all parts of the tune. Besides of that it's loud while the drums are big too.
Everything already said about the bass is still valid though.

came down to EV, O and WW, was hard though, but i went with WW, even if it misses something...strange contest somehow^^

Honestly, in the last thread (what happened to that btw? And I didn't get a PM either :goggly: ) I voted for WW, but now that YY has been added (Y was in the last thread, I guess that's why we have this take 2 here, which makes sense, since Y had mono drums  ), it gets my vote, with WW in second ("strangled" sounding, as Dan accurately pointed out in the last thread, but not as much as II IMO, and the mids in WW don't poke out annoyingly IMO like in BY, my third choice, and especially JQ and SS, though each in different parts of the midrange of course) And IMO EV has a bit too much mud/rumbling, and O is a bit indistinct and doesn't have enough bite for my tastes.

In summation: YY>WW>BY IMO

I asked the old thread to be closed because I accidentally used Y instead of YY and I was going to remake the thread. I requested the close, and made the new thread. When I went to check the old thread for the replies to pm people (including you) the thread was gone. It was deleted instead of just closed. No biggie, but I could no longer see who I had to pm.

just soft-deleted...I can restore it I think

All the tones in that final round are good/usable, none gives me a boner though. And then again it might due to (as some others said) :

*the music itself/the tuning
*the DI tracks
*the backing track
*mostly the reamping/VST amp guys doing this competition whereas having guys tracking it from the beginning would give fairly different (if not more pleasant, at least to me) results
*personal taste : the previous rounds showed that i didn't pick/favoured tones than the majority here digs (see reasons below)
*having heard that snippet so many times and analysing/judging the tone instead if just enjoying it for what it is :)

- So most of those tones are dissed cuz' they sounded to untight/spongy/saturated/messy/undefined and/or too smooth/digital, and i don't like any of those characteristics in general for a guitar tone, except for some specific genres/productions. Still most of those tones were well balanced and mix-ready, i just don't like the tone/character :

WW, SS, O, JQ, EV, CG, BY

- Then remained the final three, which i ranked this way : V (whom i voted for) > YY > II :

* V : a tad too beefy/low-middy/dark/bass heavy but tight/pleasant tone, with clarity and attitude. I guess a C4 on that (or less bass / low-mids at an early stage of the signal chain) could fix that and give a great tone, even if it still wouldn't give me a boner i'm afraid (see reasons above)

* YY : balanced, quite tight and defined but a tad too smooth for me

* II : kinda like V but worse : too loud in the clip, too dark/beefy/messy in the lows/low-mids but quite pleasant tone nonetheless

Anyway i think maybe the tones i liked due their tightness/definition have been retracked...

Let's see the results.

Very interesting competition anyway.

p.s : i'm a bit ashamed but which band/song is that ? :)
