personally, I can't wait for the oil supply to run out, just to see the look on the face of the western world when they go "oh shit, maybe we should have used this resource a little more responsibly than to power our shitty little SUVs to drive down to the corner store a 5 minute walk away." I hate to point out th obvious, but when the west runs out of oil, so will the rest of the world. And if as a global community, we're not prepared, it will be bad for everyone, not just the west.

Your point is but a mere technicality. I mean it more in the sense of SUV driving soccer-moms going "oh shucks (because soccer moms are good christians and won't say "shit"), I whatever will I do now?"

I'm sure that people in Africa, and parts of Asia will be impacted a whole lot less by a global oil shortage than the average North American. Even at that point they'll be ahead of the game because their agriculture won't be 100% industrialized.

why can't you people understand that running out of oil is a GOOD thing. this means no more fighting over a resource, the middle east will go bankrupt, as well as oil companies, etc. we will have to use that wheat concoction Nate was talking about or solar power, or simple electricity.
