How about a friendly guitar tone competition?

Ok, so I have a quick question. Are we supposed to upload a stereo track with just guitars, or are we supposed to upload the L and R channels as separate .WAV files. It wasn't clear to me in the Readme.

Thanks

I was also curious about this so I asked and he said 1 stereo WAV file.

I just finished recording my entry:D Pretty happy with it!

How would you guys prefer I upload the files for the voting? Ideally I guess it would uploaded to somewhere you can stream .wav files. I usually use box.net, but it won't let you stream .wav only download.

So...any ideas?

how about you make say 256 mp3s of the clips (and wavs too) and put them to drop.io? It even has a player on it :)

Nah, they recompress everything and make it sound like garbage :erk: I used to use drop.io (and still do when I wanna save space on dropbox), but dropbox shits all over it cuz you can direct link anything!

Just as a failsafe, I emailed my .rar with the two stereo wavs to you (Mark G) at 1:51 EST on Sunday, April 26th. If you didn't get them for any reason, let me know.

Good luck everyone!

Oops, I totally forgot I entered this until I got the PM.

Is the deadline the end of Sunday night GMT? :heh:

Then you'd be 2 hours late. Meh, just get it to me before I wake up monday -_-

Got them, thanks. I just got home so I haven't emailed the new entries yet. Good luck to you too!

Sorry to hear that, get well soon!

Some of you have been wondering why I wanted guitar tracks besides the full mix for the competition. I thought it might be cool if I posted the EQ curves of all the tracks, so people can see exactly how the winners are EQed differently from the others. Ofcourse, EQing isn't everything but it is a factor. I could also upload the CurveEQ files of all the winners for others to use as reference.

I'll only do this if people like the idea though, and if everyone is cool with sharing their EQing. I don't want to step on anybody's toes, and I don't want to spend an hour analysing all the EQ curves if nobody is interested.

Perhaps you should post the solo guitars and mix here tonight from everybody, this way we can use the solo guitar files ourself if we wish and you don't have to do that for us.
I think it's also great to see how different the tones are when they are played solo AND in a mix.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to it ;-)

For the competition I'll just use the mixdowns. But after every competition round, I can upload the EQ graphs, EQ curve files, and solo guitars of each track for learning purposes.

*edit*

About half the people who entered sent me their files, so we have plenty to work with. Expect the first voting thread to pop up this afternoon.
