How important is Ultimate Metal to you?

I wouldn't know 75% of the bands I listen to if it wasn't for discussions on the forums hosted at Ultimate Metal. (I don't know or use any other metal forums).

In addition, how many other dedicated fans are out there completely unaware of forums or communities such as these? Surely we represent just a fraction of the global metal audience, no?

i do however like to chat and discuss. i could live if it went away but im glad its here.

Most of my new bands are found just browsing Amazon.com, but this is definately a great place to come to and talk with people about anything.

yea it's ok. It's just a thing to pass time for me... post stuff and if pplz like it, KICKASS! if they don't... ah who cares fighting on the net is funny bcuz everyones tough on the net. hell, my mom's tough on the net haha as far as finding new bands goes, I don't turn to here since I have to decide for myself whether i like a band or not, rather than go on someone's opinion... so i turn to www.blackmetalradio.com for that.

I'm on UM on a pretty much daily basis, although that's probably because I write for this place... hehehe... but yeah, I've been coming here since not too long after it opened, and I've discovered many many new bands in that time, both through being sent CDs to review for the site and through the discussions on the boards.

Not important at all. I've only just started using the Bulletin Board's and don't really read many reviews here. I use other sites and other BB's to get new into new stuff.

Ultimatemetal has some great folks on here and also opens us up to alot of music that you can't hear on the US stations.
My biggest gripe is that it allows immature non metal kids to post crap that is degrading to the scene.Community is a place where people have similar interests and usually a respect for each other.If you dislike metal you should'nt be allowed to be a member of the board.

I like it. I've been turned on to some great music and it's a great place to go when you're not sure whether or not to buy an album. No matter what you listen to, there's always someone here who listens to it too.

Question:

What do you think the ratio is between metal fans that post on forums such as UM compared to metal fans that don't choose to post or know that these forums even exist? Do we represent 1%? 50%? etc?

I'm just curious to guess whether UM and other boards carry fair representation of the metal populous.

compared to the forum i usually frequent ( www.powerslave.com ) this is one of my havens where i can actually discuss metal. like on the PS forums (a site for norcal underground metal) you cant talk metal there. it will get pushed down by random bullshit. and every time you try to state an opinion everyone jumps down your throat and calls you a nazi or a fag. and if you try and start a discussion or intelligent debate it gets filled with moronic comments, or they say its a stupid topic. atleast on UM (and a select few of other sites) i can actually talk metal, have intelligent discussion. i try posting these topics other places and get nothin but retarted comments.

so thank you UM!! for being a haven for metal!
